Hello im tryin to expand my homenetwork to include new computers on the 3rd floor currently:

My modem is in the Basement connected to a LINKSYS BEFSR81 then connects to the devices in my basement 5 in total then a cable runs to the 2nd floor for a PC and another runs to the third floor for another pc . Id like to add another 4 devices on the 4th floor ive tried just adding in another router but that dosent work .
any ideas?

Add a switch or hub instead of a router. They are cheaper than a router or if you already have a router there may be an option to turn off the router and make it a dumb switch.
If not then you need to plug the line coming from the main router into the WAN port and then set DHCP on the upstairs router to a different IP range. Linksys normally uses 192.168.1.X and gives it's self the address of 192 168.1.1. You would need to set the upstairs router to use DHCP for the WAN and set the DHCP for it's LAN to something like 192.168.2.X . Hope that makes sense.
