I have the Vonage VoIP phone service and the router stopped working after a storm and the cable went out (Broadband). My modem is still functioning properly and my internet connection is fine. However, the phone ports will not work. All appropriate lights on the router are on (including phone port 1). I have rebooted to my hearts content. I feel that if I took a power surge that the router would not function at all. Is this correct? Should I re-install the firmware on the router?

This thread began with reporting Linksys voice ports failing after a storm (router lights still lit) and later noting an Internet port problem. A factory/reset step was suggested by — a good first move — but the following checklist gives a systematic way to isolate whether the issue is configuration, a provisioning problem, or hardware damage.

Start by isolating layers: verify the physical link (try a known-good Ethernet cable and a different LAN/WAN port), connect a PC directly to the suspect port to confirm link/negotiation, and test the VoIP device or analog phone on another network or directly to the modem/ATA if possible. If the port shows no link LED with a known-good cable and device, treat it as a possible hardware failure.

If the port is up but voice or Internet still fails, check configuration and provider provisioning: back up current config, perform a controlled factory reset, then avoid importing potentially corrupted settings. Disable features that commonly break VoIP (SIP ALG, strict NAT), confirm SIP/RTP ports per the service provider, and ensure QoS and firewall rules aren’t blocking signaling or audio streams. For Internet-port complaints, also confirm the modem is in the correct mode (bridge vs router) and test the router on another network to rule out modem/ISP faults.

Storms can cause partial failures: lights may remain on while the data path or onboard power regulation is damaged. Inspect the power adapter, try a spare adapter with the same voltage/current, and consider swapping the unit with a loaner. If hardware failure is suspected after these tests, contact Linksys support (Linksys Support) and the VoIP provider for provisioning checks (Vonage Support).

you should reset your router and make sure you're forwarding the necesary ports.

Thanks! I reset the router via the Llinksys website and it received the updates from Vonage and is working correctly.

thanks!
