i would personally never submitt my site to directories. However if you do check the cache to see if the SE's have crawled the site any time recently. Just my 2 cent tip.

is it a problem that in my webmaster tool account i have duplicate meta descriptions? And Duplicate title tags? I run a forum and am wondering if this hurts in terms of SEO. Any advice or info would be much appreciated. Thanks

a higher rank means you have more links and hence more traffic coming to your site. This benefits your business as you will then get potential clients.
