Hmn, I found this, but I'm not sure if it can be modified to work with excel (should): http://skp.mvps.org/pptxp010.htm

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

I'll see what I can do with some API's, but I think it's easier just to make a form, and show it as Modal, (form.show vbmodal, me), and set it's boarder properties. I'll check into it though.

I don't understand completely what you are trying to do.... but I can tell you that in order to get the selected item in the listbox, you can say:

selitem = list1.list(list1.listindex)

and that will return the value (in a single-select only listbox) selected in the listbox....

For reasons that are beyond my understanding, we are being moved into the whole new era of having to give things ID's. If someone knows another way, simplier, using names, please let me know, but try this:

<html>
<head>
	<meta http-equiv="Content-Type"content="text/html; charset=windows-1254">
	<title>JavaScript</title>
	<script language="javascript">
	function ShowValue()
	{
		document.getElementById("TextBox").value = "You clicked the button.";

	}
	</script>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#ffffff" vlink="#99FF33" link="#FF99FF">

<input type="text" ID="TextBox" name="TextBox" width="128"><br>
<input type="button" name="Show" value="Show" onClick="ShowValue();">

</body>
</html>

Depends on if you want to launch the MP3 with the default application or not...... here is an example project that you can use that allows you to select if you want to use the default application, or if you want to specify an application to use when launching the file. It's fully commented, so let me know how it turns out for you.

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

well, I've seen WAY too many posts in the C/C++ and Perl forums with no code tags...... so what does that tell ya?

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

That's a prefect solution. There are a ton of langauges, but let's face it, there are BASICALLY 2 kinds. Basic, real. Basic is a fairly simple, and easy to figure out language, if, end if, etc. Then the real style (you know, C, C++, Perl, Java, Javascript, etc) with the cool braces and brackets. So, you just look for a list of programming syntax in their post, and either ask them to use code tags, or automagically add them.

Another solution, since some people have a hard time figuring out how to stick stuff between code tags, is to have Dani modify vbullettin, and have a link or another button for "post code", which loads a new window with a textbox, where they paste the code, and it adds it to the post with the tags.....

When I was in the army, they had filters. The problem I had wasn't that I wanted to look at porn or anything silly, but that even legit e-mail sites were locked out. Being a programmer, with access to a linux box that was outside of the network, I wrote a perl script that allowed me to type in the URL, and it used the LWP module to retrieve the HTML, added a base tag to the HTML (to expand all relative paths) and modified the links so that it referenced my perl program, so that it could get the HTML for the HREF'd page, and saved the HTML file on to the server (the linux box running perl, which was also a web-server). I suppose the concept is a proxy, but when someone can program, you have just lost over half of your power to lock them out of things.

Well, I wanted to add some updated stuff to it before posting, but I can always add it later. Keep in mind that there is 1 issue, and so far, I'm not able to explain why.... I'm guessing because the information is memory resident, or some other crazy windows reason, but if you change the interval (the time to wait before the screen saver launches) it does not actually take effect until you reboot. Now, the entry for the screensaver wait time, does, in fact, get updated. But even after it's been updated, it still shows (the registry shows the new value, but if you go to screen saver properties (right click on the desktop, properties, screen saver tab) it still shows the old interval, dunno...). The text changes, and works, however. Have you way with it, or use it as is.... let me know how it turns out.

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

? What does that have to do with required tasks for windows to operate?

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

And you can still use shellexecute to execute a program without it's "default" loading operation. Meaning, you can load media player with the filename you want it to play as a parameter, instead of calling the .mp3 (or whatever) directly.

Right, if she's stepping down because she has other things going on, then what she's doing is responsible. My initial thought was that she was leaving because she didn't want to give the site a bad rap (which she states). If that was her sole reason, then that's not cool.... but knowing she won't have time for us ( :cry: ) changes things.

The user of the site, to my knowledge would have to allow activeX controls, to be accepted and run on their system. It's not really a good idea. If you are doing it for yourself, or for a business... say, an internal network or something nuts.... then you could allow access to activeX scripting, and have it use the shell method of the wscript object. If it's for people who you may not know are using the site, chances are their browser isn't going to allow activex to be run, and your links would fail for security reasons. If you have access to all these machines, you could remove the browser plugins that allow acrobate to load inside of the browser, which would make them "download" the file (or open from current location) and it would use acrobate, the external program....

Personally, I don't know how good of an idea it is to use a submit button with an onclick event. I could be wrong, and still living in earlier days, but I would use a button, with an onclick, and then do a form.submit(); to submit the form. The perl code looks fine (taken from a book, pretty much, but fine). A Debugging suggestion here, is to use alerts throughout your code, and walk through the page, line by line if necessary, with alerts in each code block. Alert the values of your variables or elements, and make sure that you are passing something other than blank or null information to the perl script.

I'm going to link you here, but it's my advice that you don't do it that way. I don't advise using the "windows help." like you see in some programs. I suggest that you build your own. As the world starts to become more comfortable with and more in tune with the web, people who don't even know how to write e-mails, or send instant messages, or understand anything about the internet, understand how to surf. Hell, even windows is forcing people to get the feel of being on the web all the time, by using active-desktop, and making web-pages their backgrounds.... Even apps that have no business on the net are becoming, or have already become net based. So, my suggestion to you, is to use the microsoft internet control (which is basically a web browser that you embed into a form), and make your help files HTML files. Then, when someone wants help (they press F1, or whatever), it loads the new form (with the browser) and navigates to the HTML files on the hard-drive. Here is the link, however, to something that may help you if choose not to take my advice: http://www.helpscribble.com/vb.html

Even with an elseif or select case, you're going to have a crap load of code to do exactly what you need done. If you know the elseif layout, then it would be something like:

if option1.value = true then
    option4.enabled = false
    option7.enabled = false
    ' and set all the others to enabled = true
ElseIf option2.value = true then
    option5.enabled = false
    option8.enabled = false
    ' and set all the other to enabled = true
end if

Now, if they were control arrays (the option buttons) all with the name of option1 then you can set everything to enabled = true by simply doing something like:

for I = 0 to option1.count -1
     option1(I).enabled = true
next I

But that's only going to fly in a control array, and you'll still need an if statement for each button that you want to NOT get set to true..... my opinion is, to quit looking for ways to avoid writing the code, and just do it. You'll get it done faster that way.

Well, if you have a sirious problem, you may want to contact their customer support here: http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=Page&cid=1019257316790, or get a hold of "Car Tunes" and have them install the module you need. As for your program, I would suggest using the internet transfer control, and get the file. You might have problem getting the progress of the download this way, since it only offers you 1 event (the statechanged event) which isn't very helpful, but you can read more about the control here: http://www.garybeene.com/vb/tut-inet.htm.

The other two options you have, are to use sockets (winsock, or be wise and download catalyst socketwrench) which will give you the greatest amount of control (where you can update the progress bar byte by byte, or by amount of data read from the socket). While this offers the most power, and is probably the best solution, it requires a deal more knowledge, and a pretty big understanding of the HTTP Protocol. Headers and Requests, etc, etc.

The only other option I can think of (based on controls) is to use the Microsoft Internet Control, Which is basically a sick way of embedding internet explorer into your form. You add the control to the form, and it loads a web page. If the file you want to download is on a web server (which I have been assuming all along that it is) you just make the control go to the specified URL, and it should behave just like …

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

Here is a calculator Skeleton I built for you. It doesn't actually do anything accept for putting the clicked numbers into the textbox, so you'll have to add the buttons and code for doing the calculations, but this is how I would start to go about it.

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

I would personally say that it has nothing to do with being a Moderator. You insulted a programmer (intentionally or not, isn't particularly relevent.... if it wasn't intentional, you probably should have apologized). The only thing she did as a moderator, was lock the bumped post, which hardly constitutes an abuse of moderator power. Had she edited your post, or deleted it, well, ok, but she didn't. This is a person to person battle, and her status as a moderator has nothing to do with it.

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

You could do it with an elseif, but your best bet is to simply add the required code to each option button. This makes the code more readible, more modular, and more understandble.

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

This post doesn't belong in the community introductions, as much as the VB6 Forum. It seems to me, however, that if the required VB runtimes are not installed (deleted for some reason, infected by a virus and quarentined, whatever...) that the internal functions would take a crap. I've never personally faced this problem, but first thing is to reinstall VB6. Once you do that, repost, and let me know what happens.

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

hmn... was it done in the same version of VB?

Comatose 290 Taboo Programmer Team Colleague

No No, it's not a bother (I never intended for it to come across that way), the way the question was formed, and by your description, it seemed like more of an office issue, than a VB issue. I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "export", perhaps. So, in light of this new information, I'm going to guess that you have a VB app, that reads data from access, and puts it into excel?
