That's something that I would call "Create a shortcut to a file or folder in Android" on google. Something like https://www.google.com/search?q=Create+a+folder+shortcut+android+file+explorer

And sure enough it has us install some file explorer to make it happen.

Android and iOS are not like Linux and Windows. The mobile OS concept has the user running an app not not dealing with files. It's folk that want to use it like our computers that want to see folders and files.

Sorry about your problems but your post is suffering from a few issues. It's a typical copy and paste of the assignment and a horribly formatted code dump which makes it hard to read.

I don't see any questions by you so to some of us there are no questions but someone that did a dump and run hoping someone will complete the assignment.

Try fixing your post by telling all what issue(s) you are having on what lines plus fixing up the code formatting.

At first it may be a technical quagmire as you figure out how to copy, where to place the file in the Android file system. The biggest hurdles appear to be getting used to the new way of things. It's like I droped you into a foreign land with no maps or even a compass. If you used your lessons and knowledge of WIMP (windows icon mouse point) you will be disoriented.

Hang in there. Eventually you find your way.

-> There's a reason why in a stock Android phone many of us install a file explorer like EFS File Explorer but that app has grown over time and isn't the simple thing it was long ago.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

This is one of those solved problems. If I were to do this today I'd use one of the over 120 solutions at https://www.rosettacode.org/wiki/Caesar_cipher

If you are getting into commercial software or working on your own app, it's very common to use GPL or open source solutions. In your case, I'd hit Rosetta Code samples.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I wonder where that file is at. For example on Dropbox that file could be in their cloud but when I connect I can view it when offline.

You may wish to copy that file while online to some folder of your choice.

In short, there is no manual and if there was this would be specific to your model and version OS. Since Android had no less than 10 versions and some hundred plus makers the only constant is there is no consistancy. At the office I work on our Android apps and we can not, can never tell our clients if our app works on a phone we haven't tested. We have to write "it should."

This can really upset folk that are used to fully documented systems. With Android, fragmentation and more means you have to either chuck it or dive in and figure it out. I can hear you screaming "how did this happen?"

"I am not assured that every state uses the same class of printer."

That's what your IT has to solve with a consistant way to resolve what printer to send to. Think over how they print now. They must know the printer name so maybe this is something you ask for in your script. Or you stump for a standard across the system for a default printer in some environment variable for scripts to use when called. That's the same discussion 3 times on the homepage but no way to get the most recent reply. This is a real ding against using the home page. That is, duplicates for same object of interest and no link to get to the recent update. Instead the fast(?) way to get to the new content is to click Latest and then you can get there.

I don't want to tire you on this but the Home Page in my view should be the place to go, not the place to avoid.

I let this question stew for a while since everytime I read it I thought "hey, they have their target audience so they know what that audience is here for."

So it's not like you don't have your target audience where you need the questions with answers to find the demographics.

Finally your post heads off the rails to me about SEO. The thing about such a site is you have your audience already so they are here for what you offered in the first place. Unless your post contained a blatent error about that. So for your target audience you create content for them.

Welcome to Daniweb. This site is about getting help but does not supply code for you to submit to your class assignments.

What works is for you to show your work so far and then tell where you are stuck. Your assignment has a lot of steps so if all the steps are confusing I have to wonder if you skipped all the work leading up to this assignment. In such a case you go back to the prior chapters to catch up.

Image upload failed again. This was a screenshot using the Windows 10 snipping tool and saved with defaults to a file. Having to bounce it throught Imgur is going to get old.

It seems everytime I visit the homepage of daniweb.com I get a screen that is modern in design but is missing the mark so much so that others and I are bypassing it and going elsewhere.

On top of that it shows duplicates of the same topic (see image) which I've seen it push up 3 or more that lead you to the same discussion. What makes it even more a place I may stop looking at is I can't click on the reply date and get to the answer or new content. Instead I have to either page through it all or use the Latest link and that works as expected.

The only reason I'm posting about this is this is screaming at me as a lost opportunity. Just fixing the page so I can get to the latest answer would be a big upgrade. I don't know why it would show that many boxes on the same discussion but hey, it's trying.

Let's hope you get some user testing done on this soon.

So you now have a way to print more than one lable but I bet you want to preview a screen full of different labels before printing. For that you are going to have to change your thought pattern.

Long ago, we would print labels and did not use the print preview but just showed on screen the data that would print. So you could instead make up some screen with text boxes (?) and fill those with the data you are really going to print. I take it the reason for the preview is to check prices, text, etc. and not type setting.

Nbrase commented: I did as you advice and i change my pattern, and i was able to preview more than 1 label thank you for support :) +0

Is that valid XML? https://www.xmlvalidation.com/ didn't like it.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

My first test was to validate your XML. https://www.xmlvalidation.com/ failed what you posted so can you tell more about this apparently broken XML?

And now, story time. I too was asked to use XML files in a production app where the client would supply XML files. (Not) to my surprise Microsoft's XML reader blew up on their supplied XML files. After a few back and forths I decided that there was no way the client would correct their XML production method.

What happened next may shock you. (Obviously lifted from the web.) I dove in and just parsed out what I needed for our production app. Microsoft's XML reader was not used.

Actually I see TWO RULES to be applied in code to the strings.

  1. If there are leading spaces, remove them,.
  2. If there are more than one space, leave one space.

So you'll need two loops, one for each rule. Yes I bet you could use regular expressions but then you have a new problem.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm going to answer how I might go about this. Since you have a method to get one print out, then you would step back one step to build a loop to repeat that printout but one for each item in some list or what have you. Just like any machine that makes something, to make more you repeat that over and over till done.

I would not suggest doing such work "when browser is open". Watch the video, albeit Python and notice that there was not a browser open when the submit stage was done. A browser is for the human to use. If you want to write a BOT that interacts with a web page, then a BOT doesn't need to open a browser.

If you insist on interacting with a browser, you will encounter a lot of pain and roadblocks. For that I would look at AutoIT scripts.

-> In parting the above sounds like a bot. There are many that do such bots then try to sell them. If you hide what you are trying to do, it gets very hard for others to either show you the way or comment on why that's a good or bad thing.

First, welcome to DANIWEB.

One of the things I talk about to our interns is to go ahead and use search engines for the simple things. Your question appears to have many priors and examples when I try this search. https://www.google.com/search?q=name+and+password+example+in+C+language

Was there more to your question?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

https://wiki.wxpython.org/ListControls seems to have code examples to enable DnD in lists.

But if you expected some no code solution, I haven't encountered for found such.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

The image issue will come back if others start using it. That's my bet.

For now I have a workaround so I'll take that and return to my top subject. It appears that the home page is working as designed so I'm marking this solved.

That done, I can only hope the home page evolves to something better. For now, I think I'll just point my shortcut elsewhere.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@gahhon. I was unclear. Where I think you are at is missing "how things work." This is not a code issue yet. You may have learned Java and .NET but you need to now learn how web pages work. The Python method or video gives us insight there but for you to build a BOT in Java, you need both Java and web knowledge.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

It probably is but this is a new issue. I've used images many times before but what is new is what I'm trying to sort out. I tried with more than one file and a file that was unique on the Chromebook and second travel laptop so my bet is this won't be the last we'll hear about this.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Does not show in Preview. Trying to post next.

I must test with other browsers. Here it is Firefox with no adblockers etc.

The image is selected and the thumbnail shows but it never finishes. Just a thumbnail with a "Cancel uload" below it.
I tried it with a rather small sub 15K image and it just sat there. Now to try Opera, Chrome, etc.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

And a perfect opportunity for that page to show articles about:

  1. Getting more out of DaniWeb.
  2. How to connect to others on DW.
  3. Special offers.
  4. Our News Channel.

Those items or such could be formatted much like the "Related Topics" I see on screen while in this discussion.

This home page has felt like this since the changeover. DW's login system is now what folk expect so that's great but this home page screams like a hungry child.

Also, image upload looks broken. I couldn't find an example of what the markdown should look like so I just pasted in what Imgur.com gave and see it just hyperlinked. Strange.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I've noted how the home page seems sparse but why is that lone upvote there at all? It's not that interesting and there's no way to dismiss it or fill the page with what I choose.
See attached screen. NOPE. The image upload looks broken. I'll try Imgur and it's markdown.

No other forum leaves this so barren. I was hoping to see it flourish over time. Or see controls, options to have it be a place to go often.

And when there are items besides this, they seem to be random in size and match as to my interests. It's such a mismatch that I've not getting the point at all about that page.
BTW, https://www.daniweb.com/articles/latest/recommended coughs up the Oops! page.
Imgur

I don't see the Imgur markdown working either. Here's a link.

I have to disagree. That button in almost all sites triggers the form submit. As to the your new reply, this is just another get the form, change as you wish and do another form submit.

How long have you been working with such systems? This may be where you want to find tutorials on how web pages, forms and data works because without understanding how it works, you may be lost.

Also, why not Python? Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtNYzv8gLbs as it gives you an idea of using an app to fill in and submit those forms.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Sounds like you need the right words to research this. Example: https://www.google.com/search?q=Submitting+a+web+form+with+JAVA

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

So far the home page shows me an upvote and very little else. I was waiting till you settled in but the home page I see is a desert. To me the view looks like a missed opportunity with all that empty space and one lone upvote that just hangs there like the lone ornament on a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

To me it seems that giving up control of what's on a page to user prefences would go a lot way to member satifaction and alan.davies.

Even hear the story of Windows Mobile's Home screen? Microsoft refused to let users custimize that screen only allowing cellular carriers to change it. Apple came along, then Android and it was game over.

This one is one I know of intimately because of apps we made in 2009. Microsoft was actually pretty close to having a good smart phone but this area of NOT allowing the user to change the home screen was a killer. Our apps ran fine, we do really well but the platform is now history. I have more story here such as being in the meetings with Microsoft reps and carriers and hearing first hand they were going to only allow carriers access to that screen.

So back to here. Why not give up control to the members?

alan.davies commented: How about skins? Remember when you could choose which style you viewed a forum in? I wonder if Dani would offer the old purple and vomit yellow? +0
rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Yes I forgot to note host details. Windows 10, Firefox shows this behavior. Opera and Chrome just fine with a single image in a tab.

Thanks alan. I know details like this matters.
