From your reply, all that is possible once you set up your database server on your network or even the Internet. All that you need to know is not going to be in my reply unless I note web content.

Admit you are just starting out and take a few classes on SQL administration and if you are paying attention then it will start to make sense.

That is, your database server (not a file!) is on some server then your app connects to that and you allow, or not, changes per your SQL rules and your code.

PS: Can't go to school? Get started with web content like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=your+first+vb.net+mysql+project

That's odd.

I've been hanging back on this one to give time to think.

My view is this should be in the member's control. It's that simple. Sure, setup the defaults, but let the members decide.

At that site "Create your own Brand and sell under your private label With a few Simple Clicks" so it's up to you to do those "Simple Clicks."

If it doesn't work then you yell at them for telling a lie.

Your PFSense could be doing odd things to the browse traffic and thus breaking craigslist's odd things about it and it's geo-fence PLUS OTHER things that keep out bots and more. I can't list all that is odd about CL, but yes, it is different and as I'm only aware of CL oddities but don't know them all my take is "it's your PFsense and Cl" breaking down. You convinced me of this with your success with Tor.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

First, my choice would have been https://forum.netgate.com/ since that's where they discuss that.

The fact the TOR browser works does point to possible geo-fencing by their site. "It's no secret that several years ago Craigslist implemented geo-blocking at both a country and state level. If you don't know, geo-blocking" if you research this.

So I'm possibly wrong but right about Craigslist and geo-blocking.

You may want to count yourself lucky. If an update fails to install, DO NOT FORCE IT IN. I've seen folk end up having to start over.

These usually work themselves out as the update failure reports back to Microsoft and it might be reinssued.

-> To carry on here, tell which update failed such as KBnnnnnnn where nnnnnnn is the number so others and you can research.

Finally updates are not activations. Please don't confuse those two things.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I think you need to explain something about your SQL server. Are you putting a SQL server and database on each machine or something else?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

@johh_165. I've seen folk just dump their code without telling where the error is. When I have an issue I narrow it down to the line that is giving me trouble then I examine the variables for that line and think over how that line works. For me that's how I work most of the errors I encounter.

Dumping your project and asking for a fix may get you no answers.

Don't get me wrong. I think that was a bad move as home users lost some easy repair paths. Microsoft's future according to them is the subscription model which is what IBM, Digital and others had and where the PC broke that model. Strange how history repeats or goes all "Animal Farm."

If Microsoft flipped the model to subscription only tomorrow, we'd all be talking about other OSes PDQ.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm guessing a bad attempt to shore up Windows security. Now this might be locked down with Bitlocker so let's get into non-bitlocker systems. Just use the old utilman.exe trick to make a new local admin account and you're free to do what you want with the formerly locked down PC. The F8 was making this all too easy so my bet is this is why it went away.

Sadly as Microsoft heads into Windows As A Service, it will be an easier sell for me to replace our test heads with some Raspberry Pi computers running Raspbian.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

It appears this is well done. There are even videos about this if you just need to get it done and not learn much.

The more I read about Coach the more I see it's a CMS or content management system and once you exit what they made easy you are back into the usual work of MySQL, PHP, code and design. I did not find any example of what you wanted to do in the usual Coach discussions.

This means it's just plain design work, then understanding your database, crafting the SQL command to get what you want from some input form then writing code. If you don't do PHP or MySQL you will want to do tutorials on that first.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Please narrow down the issues you are having. As is, this is Zen like. Where to start?

  1. At the beginning as in asking for others to repeat course content.
  2. Write a tutorial how to complete this project. I doubt folk will do that.
  3. You narrow it down to a couple of questions that can be answered. (This works.)

@OP. If you think everyone wants to steal the ideas and code then you may fall into that trap where you never produce apps. I've seen this happen where a person has an idea but is stuck. As I've published many apps and designs over the years I offer to chat about it and they clam up or won't show their app to anyone.

Did you google up "Bob's Game"? It's a different sort of developer's hell but getting stuck on "everyone is going to rip off my ideas" is a common way to never get your app out the door and into the world. I've seen this happen numerous times.

-> The next trap is searching for the "best" code protection. The app is delayed as the author tries more and more protection schemes. Each time they dicover it's not 100% secure so they are trapped in a never ending cycle and never publish . Also they burn up their productive hours on this rather than getting that great idea, code and app out the door.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't need them. My apps are very specific in use so I don't bother setting up those tools. But companies that have registration systems, payment systems and such would want that. Also, folk that believe their app is "the next big thing."

Ever read about "Bob's Game?"

That makes sense over in the https://www.daniweb.com/articles/latest view where there are first and latest posts but on this page it seemed odd to me and my mind thought, oh, it's a new user and their first post.

This is really minor. It only made me ask when I went over 10 unanswered posts and all were first time posts then, wait a minute, I'm not a first time poster.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

To me "First Post by" is just that. It's this member's first ever post. I expected this if the member has this and only this post but otherwise it seems to be non-information so why bother with the pop up info?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm at https://www.daniweb.com/articles/latest/unanswered and when I mouse over the poster's gravatar or icon, all pop up with "First Post by" and the menber name.

OK, that's all well and good but then I was curious to see all the posts were "First Post by". Even one by me!

This is a truly minor bug but may as well log it.

Not to leave you without other API sources, https://www.google.com/search?q=Technical+Analysis+stock+api seems to find there are many APIs out there to explore.

Let me don my stock research hat here. That technical analysis widget doesn't seem too interesting as it's just a measure of the pundits views over some time period. I don't see the value there.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I don't mind discussing ideas on how to crack the code, but these forums are mostly about IT and finding a solution to a specific code issue. If you want you can post a For Hire post along with enough specs for the prospective coder to see if the pay is worth taking on the job.

Good luck in your coder searches.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

"any existing software which already does what i described."

That's not what I read in the top post. I read where you had the widgets and wished to get at the data on the ODO or SPEEDO then do something with that. To that I can address possible approaches from OCR of the numbers to probably simpler to grab the image, scan for the needle position to be used in your code as you wish.

But I didn't reveal that I trade stocks once in a while because it really doesn't matter except I see this as just another view into stock movements.
ALSO I've noticed that a lot of free access to stock data has been shut down. You can't use the old google and yahoo API to fetch a stock price for free anymore. Nice that you have that widget but just like stock prices the actual data is not being revealed.

Since you can't code it today and the job pays at most 250eur I worry you will find many takers. That doesn't mean I won't share how I would tackle some aspects of your app. And I do mean it's your app. Why not start the learning process to make just the tool you need?

Or is there any hack job where you can put those widgets on a big screen so you can see it in near realtime and use your eyeballs to discern what you are looking for?

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

Maybe the job pay isn't in line with the complexity and scale of the app you want? That issue is widely discussed. Custom apps are just plain expensive. I have apps going back decades that I maintain and updates run a min of one week charges with is about 5,000USD. If it's just a text change, then it might get a "here you go, no charge" but this is serious work so it's costly to keep the development systems in the store room along with the attendant test gear.

As to your comment about no idea that tells me you are just beginning to code. Maybe your first encounter with code which is fine. What you hear often are phrases that is your cue this client can't pay. "This should be simple to do." That's a phrase you know you may want to no bid a project.

Anyhow my replies are to say that it appears possible if you can either learn how to code or find a coder to take it on.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I'm going to have to disagree there is no screen grab software. You did tag your post with Java so let's find out that language can grab some screen imgage. https://www.codejava.net/java-se/graphics/how-to-capture-screenshot-programmatically-in-java shows it is possible.

So the screen grab either full screen or an area of interest can be done. Also you can then write code to examine the image to extract what you want.

As to hiring, there are many freelance sites with all sorts of folk with all levels of coding experience. My background does include some of what you are after so I don't see any reason a seasoned coder couldn't make this happen. The problem could be the pay.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

I wish you luck in finding that programmer or coding it yourself. As you noted the widget does not reveal immediately usable data so that means either it's the wrong widget or you have to think of a way to process the image.

My initial thoughts are:

  1. Screen grab the numbers below and OCR the numbers.
  2. Screen grag the ODO and then in code examine a half circle from bottom to top for the color black to get a number.

This is not an offer to code but to present possible ways to tackle the problem.

rproffitt 2,701 https://5calls.org Moderator

That's a good way to learn how to code. Here's the tutorials about that: https://www.google.com/search?q=Number+guessing+game+source+code+tutorial
