no worries, take it easy, its a bit scary at first i know, firstly can you connect to the confirguration page? the address of this can be obtained from ipconfig next to `default gateway`, if you can, are you able to ping any websites?

after that, in command prompt type in the following, this will creat a text file on your desktop with all your current settings etc

ipconfig /all >"%userprofile%"\desktop\ipconfig.txt

UrbanKhoja 89 Practically a Posting Shark Featured Poster

right! chill mate - we're all volunteers here, doing this in our limited amounts of free time, therefore any responses you received you should be grateful for - even if they were limited or of little use to you, now i guess your lucky not many people have read what you wrote but i find it kind of insulting, and if you run your own forum; why didn't you ask them instead of bad mouthing us?

"I have asked 2 and have gotten about 60% of responses that are based on diarea of the mouth"

"I am a webmaster and run a forum myself and it just burns me that a new member gets treated like this (not just this thread). "

"don't assume everyone you meet is mentally challenged, READ all the facts before assuming crap and research your responses."

thats some powerful stuff there, just a question - do the members of YOUR forum talk to those who try to help them like that, or should we feel privileged?

This is the most retarted question ever, but I just have to ask it. Does any one have any good suggestions for passwords? I need some passwords for email accounts, among other things.

if its to senistive or stuff you need to keep secure, you should always use words that dont always relate to you, for example if you support the la lakers, you could try using the torronto maple leafs - perhaps with the midsection of your phone number at the end!

hi there,

me again, now vpns, is there any way i can set one up between my computer and my dads (sperate houses) now we both have high speed dsl, with routers not modems so theres always internew available, i was told you could do it through windows, when i tried it, got an icon on the desktop, couldnt connect, what do i need to do the other end? :-|

UrbanKhoja 89 Practically a Posting Shark Featured Poster

now i had the same problem, as i have a similar set up, i have a alcatel speedtouch 205 going to a parkervision wireless d2d router, i was able to set up the modem over ip, i.e went to 192.168.1.1 for modem, and 192.168.150.1 for router, now the fact you still have good signal is nothing to worry about, just means it your modem dropping the connection, is your modem getting hot? or is it on an extention cable from a spur telephone socket - not the master, you could try ringing your isp, they may have some answers, i mean aol sent me a new modem because of it, no probs since.

i have used zonealarn and avast, dont seem to offer much protection, however im now on norton 2006 - much better, although its stupid alerts will drive me crazy! it seems to update its firewall walls every time i use a plug and play device, even if they dont need net access. norton auto update is quite heavy on the system as well, even though i ran it on my laptop (which was suppposed to be `top spec` when i brought it few weeks ago) it froze every now and then, it also did this on my friends slower toshiba laptop, but never done it on my desktop - weird?, the fact it comes with a antivirus is good but at around £50 prob be costly for some.

Try looking out of state or even out of country for someone that is offering training in the field that you want.

good idea, will it matter that i live in the u.k?

UrbanKhoja 89 Practically a Posting Shark Featured Poster

hi guys,

this may seem a really stupid question to some people,
but i hope to become a mircosoft certified network engineer, but the training courses are super expensive, and i cant find any employers who offer training, any ideas?

not sure what type of cable. it's not a phone wire. the slot is like a pin point, so i think it's coaxal.

now for cable internet services here in the u.k, the coaxial cable would go straight to the modem (a/s dsl) then a usb or ethernet cable from the modem to a router or computer depending on connection. so you may need a cable modem, providing the wireless router you brought is just a router not a modem, you may be able to use it will a cable modem.

hope this helps

Hi. I just moved to a new apartment (sharing a separate part of the house with the landlord's family), and will be sharing their cable Internet access. However, I don't know how to connect the cable to my computer and am at a complete loss as to what to do. There is a cable wire for the internet sticking out from my wall, but I have nowhere to connect it. Do I need a separate external modem?

I purchased a wireless router today that connects to my PC, but it still doesn't help with connecting the cable. I'm writing this from K Mart and don't have regular Internet access, which I very badly need. Do I even need the router??

Please help! Email me at if you know what to do.

what type of cable is it? ethernet rj-45, bnc video, or is it for a cable tv box i.e coaxal cable?

Hey guys, I'm new here and figured I would ask you all what I signed up to ask.

I have a carputer and decided on swapping out the USB 802.11 for something else more usefull to me. Currently I must connect to the carputer through a Ad-hoc connection on my laptop If it is too far away from my router and my woman is getting her new laptop soon and I want her to be able to connect to the car to upload/sync info.

I have always thought of bridging routers but somewhere in the past determined it was a bad idea. What would really happen if I put - say a linksys -G router in my car? I know I couldnt 'pick - n - choose' which SSID I connected to (easily) so would it really be usefull?

What else would you recommend to use as a network interface that will connect to a hub in the car? I know linksys makes some rj-45 wifi interfaces but I dont know if they have a seperate power source.

Just some ideas would be helpfull. Thanks for your time.

it kind of depends on what standards your carputer uses, i.e ethernet would be a good one, then see if you have a manual for it to see what it suggests about networking it, you may be able to simply run a cat5e cable from the car to your `womans` laptop, your subject was `how should i connect to isps?` , are …

Hey well got Cox highspeed internet like two months ago and wow its fast i used to have dial-up and i was SO missing out till i got highspeed...and a couple of days ago my friend got COX too but hers is faster...like i have a compaq presario laptop and an hp pavilion and when i play videos it always pauses and she has a compaq too but its not a laptop and her videos play fine w/o any pauses:!: why? i dont have many programs just like the printer programs, and some that came with the computer but on my laptop i do have kazaa she has a lot of junk like games dowloaded from the internet....aol which she doesnt even have...imesh...and so much junk...why is hers faster???? please help me! im freaking out!

not matter what spec laptop you have a desktop will usually out perform it, now faster your computer the faster it can process data i.e quicker web browsing, not once again please change your font as we are freaking out (and getting eye strain lol), you also mentioned you were using a laptop she isnt, because of heat issues and smaller lower power components laptops are generally slower than desktops (i know because im on one lol) so theres your first answer, second, i believe you mumbled kazaa & imesh, the usual p2p software, now if you have these running they will eat up your nandwidth and cause your net to seem a lot …
