I like Agile, I really do but a few times it has me walk out on the process as a few think that everyone must "buy in." That's just part of the problems I've run into and kind of glad I'm no longer on such teams. In fact if a company does go "all in" on Agile I may want to short their stock. I think it works until they try to forget what the real goals are. The real goal is to get the product out the door. Some folk love to get wrapped up in the process. The …

Hey all, Just thought I'd drop in and say hello. Why? Because it's so annoying when you join a new forum and never use it. ;-) I've been in software B2B for about 15 years, mostly as a public relations guy, but rather than focused on pitching editors at trade magazines like Dr. Dobb's, have been more interested in building communities with my customers, getting them to help one another, share ideas, code, etc. that it only made sense that I check out what others like Dani are doing. I've started blogs that turned into Customer Community Portals, and have …

We've been trying various tools to document our projects. Have tried everything from the Rational Rose suite to a basic Wiki with Visio to write up just the right amount of documentation, use cases and specs. Lately we've adopted a more agile approach to development and wanted some ideas on what you guys use to communicate clearly within your teams and capture some of the thinking and design that goes into your projects. We're now trying FogBugz with a Creately diagramming plugin that seems to work quite well as its very easy to use, includes a wiki and lets us …

The computer games industry gained rising popularity in recent years. There is however only a small number of studies about how game developing companies cope with changing requirements and interest groups, increasing team sizes and hardware and software enhancements. Currently there is a study to examine software development practices relating to their agility. In connection with the study there is a questionnaire that aims to find results on how teams from game developing companies perform their software processes. The questionnaire can be found under the following link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9PK386L Every participation is highly appreciated. Every participant can get the results of …

Two weeks ago I was asked a question to which, given my occupation, I should have known the answer. The question was: “How many software testers are there?” Being editor of a magazine about software testing, that's a number I should have know cold. At the time, I offered an estimate of about 250,000. A wild guess, really; I had no idea. As it turns out, it wasn’t all that wild. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for 2007, the latest year for which data is available, there were 349,140 people in the United States doing that job. …
