I started to open a Yahoo PPC account. I got to the keywords entry point, and was restricted to 50 keywords. I didn't go any further because I can't narrow down the 150 keywords to 50 and remain competitive? Am I missing something?

— the screen you hit is usually a UI or per-entry limit, not a hard account cap. is right to flag relevance, and is on point about campaign structure. Below is a short, practical workflow to turn a long keyword list into a manageable, performance-driven account and to work around entry limits.

  1. Clean and tag: remove duplicates, irrelevant terms, and obvious negatives. Tag each keyword with intent or the landing page it should point to.
  2. Map and prioritize: assign tags to narrow themes so each ad and landing page line up with user intent. Start with higher-intent terms first.
  3. Use match types and negatives: launch with phrase/exact for control, add negatives to prevent internal competition, then broaden cautiously.
  4. Bulk-create via CSV or API: if the UI limits pasting, prepare a CSV that includes campaign and adgroup columns and upload it in one go.

Example CSV structure:

Campaign,AdGroup,Keyword,MatchType,MaxCPC,FinalURL
Brand Campaign,Brand-Shirts,"blue t-shirt",phrase,0.50,http://example.com/blue-t-shirt
NonBrand,How-To-Shirts,"how to wash shirts",exact,0.30,http://example.com/wash-shirts

Troubleshoot: if uploads fail, check for delimiter/encoding problems, stray characters, or line-break formats. If the platform still blocks you, split the upload into batches or contact support for account limits. Instrument conversion tracking, run small tests, and scale keywords that show ROI while pruning poor performers.

Hi there,

Yahoo, Google, and Bing no longer allow unlimited numbers of keywords. It's about relevance.

Good luck,

Hi coykiesaol,

yes I think you are missing something; you need to break down your keyword list into tightly related groups which will then make up your Ad groups. That way you will have say 3, 5, 6, etc keywords per Ad group.

Send me a PM if you don't know how to go about this.
