I have a Compaq Presario Laptop 2200
It has power when turned on othind displays on the monitor?
I am not sure if it is maybe a hard drive or monitor?
Any ideas?

Good call from on testing with an external screen. Since sees no image there either, the problem is almost certainly before Windows ever loads and not the LCD panel or hard drive. When both internal and external stay black, think: no POST. That usually points to RAM, motherboard/GPU, or power delivery.
Try these in order:
If you still never see the Compaq splash, the most likely culprit is the system board/GPU. At that point, consider pulling the drive and recovering your files with a USB-to-SATA/IDE adapter on another machine.
