I have another Dell Latitude D600 with a random screen fault, every now & then the screen stays blank but windows loads ok, so i tried the obvious method & hooked it up to a TFT & it booted fine, so i removed it from the TFT & it booted fine, so i kept re-booting & after about 20 re-boots it went blank again & stayed blank till i removed the launch panel then it booted, so now i`m thinking is it the inverter or the screen cable ???? Is there any way of telling if the screen cable is at fault or if it is an inverter fault ?

not for sure. you can check the end of the cable for good contact, but that's about all without replacing parts unless you have a factory manual. Have you checked that something isn't tripping the int/ext monitor function key? That some peice of food hasn't gotten behind the panel or such?
