my dell inspiron 1100 wont load. when i turn it on i get an error message saying "no bootable devices". can someone help me with this please

Either your bios is looking in the wrong place to boot, the hard drive is totally dead, or just the mbr. Make sure that you don't have any usb drives or floppies in the system and try to boot up. If the problem persists, use your XP CD to boot, select R to repair, and at the prompt type fixboot, then fixmbr. If that doesn't work, your hard drive is probably dead.
