Your laptop could be setup with a static IP to run at the house. do an ipconfig /all and check if you are setup as DHCP or static.

Does your fan exhaust near the plug? Also, you can blow out the air vents and elevate the rear of the laptop during use.

Is your network card enabled and properly configured? Do you get an IP address from your router? Can you ping your router? Can you ping Google.com?

Does the problem occur both inside and outside the dock? It sounds like a hardware profiles issue. I would create new hardware profiles for each situation. Here's some info on hardware profiles by MS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308577

Where is your email comming from? Yahoo, hotmail, comcast, etc.? The bigger companies like these usually have a procedure for setting up Outlook on their website.

Check your HOSTS file. Go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc and open the HOSTS file with notepad. You shouldn't have anything other that the 127.0.0.1 entry in there.

Where exactly is the problem? Does the laptop not boot at all? Can you get to Windows? Can you get inside Windows?

What do the logs say? Seems like I've had this problem before and it was related to a service failing and not restarting.

I'm pretty sure the Guest account does not have the rights to access the PC remotely. I suggest clearing the password, disabling the Guest account, create a new account called Limited or something, and grant and deny it to whatever you want.

SBS RWW is secure by default. You might want to edit you FQDN out of your post though. No one needs to know that except the people that need to access the system.

Sounds like your hard drive has become corrupted. Boot to your XP CD, and choose the repair option. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r. This will try to repair the bad sectors on the drive. If this doesn't work, you may have to replace the drive. You should replace …

Take the battery out and remove AC power for @ 15 minutes. Plug the laptop back in, and then try to boot it. If that doesn't work, take the memory out and try to boot again. You should get a beep code. If not, you have a motherboard or processor …

Do you have another hard drive laying around? If so, swap the hard drives, blast the partitions, do a format, and clean install. If it works, it's a partition issue on the other drive.

Pull the battery and AC power for about 10-15 minutes. Then plug in the AC power and try to boot. Don't plug in the battery.

Vista can be a real pain when it comes to sharing files across the network. go to your Network and Sharing Center and make sure all the settings in the Sharing and Discovery section are setup correctly.

Uninstall the current drivers and software from the programs and applications applet in the control panel. Reboot the system and install the latest drivers from Gateway at http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=4425 If that doesn't do the trick let us know.

Are you sure you're using the right drivers from the Acer website? Most of the time OEM's have 5+ network drivers for each PC, and in my experience you have to try each one until you find the right driver.

Whenever you setup a new email server, this tool helps alot: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/diagnostic.aspx. Also, when it comes to reverse dns, your ISP will have to setup the PTR record. I just went through 2 hours of telephone support hell trying to find the right people to talk to at AT&T, and …

I would suggest purchasing a new drive, and then trying to put your current drive in an external enclosure like this: http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=40159497&source=EWBBASE&cm_mmc=CSE-_-google-_-ewbbase-_-Storage&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=40159497. Then you might be able to access the date on your old drive.

The beeping sound is an error code. Write down the code, usually something like long beep-short beep-long beep-long beep, and post it.

Make sure Windows is up to date, and look for updated drivers for your soundcard at the pc's manufacturer's website. Look for fixes and enhancements at the website as well.

Do you have all of the updates from the Microsoft Updates website? If not, update your system there first. Also, you may want to visit the support page of your laptop manufacturer for fixes or enhancements for your particular pc.

Sounds like your CD isn't bootable. Make a bootable XP CD or boot to another bootable cd and run the XP setup from that environment.

The ASUS website should have an updated manual with the required info. I wounld't assume all is well with the single beep since every manufacturer has different standards. Does the system boot properly with the original PSU? If so your new PSU may be faulty.

You probably need them all. .Net isn't cumulative for some odd reason - if something requires .Net 2.0, then 3.0 won't work.

The installer is probably just looking at the size of the active primary drive (I:) and balking.

Try completely disabling the hardware that is throwing out dings in the event viewer. Also, are the drivers for the sound card 64 bit?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me as well. New firmware might do the trick but you will probably be shopping for a new router soon.

Just contact the manufacturer and have new recovery cd's sent out. That's the easiest solution.

Make sure all PC's are in the same workgroup, on the same ip subnet, are pingable via their hostname, and file sharing is allowed through the firewall on each pc.

You will need a cable tester and toner, wire strippers, punchdown kit with 110 and 66 blades, and the typical screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
