[my computer used to work brilliantly but just the other day
as i was trying to boot the screen was blue and nothing else

blue screen when loading windows? or blue screen when you power on you PC? if blue screen when you power on during POST, try with another monitor, if during windows then you might need to repair your OS..

have you made any changes on the hardware?

i had experienced 2 types of blue screen..
one is the famous BSOD...the one with error code.... if it is that one, simply copy the code and try google it...

another one is after entering password in the login menu. the cursor is there but there is no sign that the desktop is showing. there is a blank blue screen. try hit ctrl+alt+del to open the task manager. select new task... and type explorer.exe... the desktop will show as usual. get a good antivirus and clear the virus
