Thread summary and focused troubleshooting checklist.

described the white-screen symptom when switching windows or launching games. Several members chimed in: reported a keyboard-based workaround that cleared the symptom for them, while and describe recurring or persistent display problems. That mix (a temporary software-like fix for one machine and ongoing hardware-like symptoms for others) points to two broad categories: display-output/driver issues and physical/display-cable or panel failure. The steps below show a short, systematic way to isolate which side you’re on.

  • Power-cycle and observe before the OS loads: does the problem show during the BIOS/manufacturer logo? If yes, lean hardware. If no, lean software/driver.
  • Attach an external monitor (VGA). If the external is normal while the laptop panel is white, suspect the panel or its cable/connector. If both are white or both fail, suspect GPU/board or firmware.
  • Boot a clean environment (Safe Mode or a Linux live USB). If the panel is stable there, update/reinstall graphics drivers in Windows. If the white screen persists in a clean environment, it’s likely hardware.
  • Note when the fault appears: after heavy GPU use (games) suggests overheating or GPU stress; sudden while switching windows suggests driver/crash.
  • For hardware checks: reseat the display cable and memory with power removed (battery out, charger unplugged). Watch for lid-angle dependence or changes when flexing the lid gently — that often signals a loose/damaged LVDS/eDP cable.
  • Back up data before deeper work. If unsure, stop and seek a repair shop rather than risking further damage.

If diagnostics point to the panel/cable, panel replacement or cable reseating is often cheaper than motherboard repair on older Aspire 4715z units. If the GPU/board is failing, replacement cost may exceed the laptop’s value. Document exact observations (BIOS behavior, external monitor result, lid-angle effects) before posting that information here or taking the unit to a technician.

My computer tech found a solution for my Acer laptop. When the white screen comes up, simply hit the Fn (function) button, then F6 and then the Fn key once again. since he did that, it has never had a white screen again.

Have you try the solutons above. It can also cause by some damage hardware.
