Unless there's been some physical damage (albeit unknown) it's there to let you know that the batt. is being depleted of charge. If it's under warranty or not, best schedule it for a trip to a reputable service center.

thank you mechbas, i had a little problem with my motherboard and after fixing it i started noticing that even if the laptop is complete off the power light will still be on.

Remove the battery for few seconds, check this forum, it worked
