my lenovo laptop was not shutting down for quite a long time so i used to give shut down command and quickly remove the battery for it to shut down, today it started acting funny, the shuttle service, camera started opening on its own so i thought it need a "One Key Recovery" as it may have got infected by a virus, so i shut it down so that i can do the one key recovery thing but to my bad luck it did not boot at all. What should i do please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this laptop has vista home basic and office 2007 just in case the info is needed.

You should run a windows repair and try to correct system files. Insert the windows cd and run the setup at boot dont do the first repair but continue when you are asked to format select leave current operating system in tact.

You should post the exact symptoms of what happens when you try to boot there could be an easier solution.

you should use windows repair system or update the OS..
other wise share here more details about the problem ur facing...

have u scanned ur system with a nice antivirus(like quick heal)?

if not then do that first ...coz it seems that there is a virus which is not allowing the system to shutdown

also give some more info ....nything strange happened before that?

were u connected to net when camera started?

hello...
it means ur lapi is not booting.......right
then you can try a "start up repair" .
for this switch on ur lapi and press F12 key untill a list of options comes asking u where to boot from.
then
1. insert ur vista cd in cd/dvd rom and select the "boot from cd/dvd" mode.
2. allow the process to take place
3. follow the instructions and do start up repair
4. if this also not works then try system restore option

hope this would solve ur problem.

for that my laptop must start, it does not come on, it does not show the blue light which normally comes when i press the "on button", its just dead.........laptop is not switching on at all................

Well you could have serious hardware error if so you whould take it to a technician to check whats wrong but first i would double check the power ensure the bettery is well connected and connect the laptop via the ac power cord as well some computesr have a surge protecter you can disable it by holding the power or reset button in for over a minute.

Well in this case gurukid is right. Follow his instructions

hi thanks for the reply
i will get back when i know what the prob is

hi thanks i will get back when i know what it is ..............

That does clarify things. Without mention of the PC, it sounded like you were describing a notebook which would not turn on but was still connected to the internet... thus the confusion :-/

In all honestly it does sound more related to a power issues, not a motherboard fault.

  • Pull out the battery and make sure any connection points are not damaged or dirty. If any grime on the points, these can be cleaned with a cotton bud lightly dampened with a bit of vinegar
  • Check the battery housing (where the battery sits in the notebook) - again look for any damaged points or residue build-up

The reason I suggest checking for any obvious damage to points is that you mentioned quickly removing the battery earlier - it is possible that some damage was done in haste.

If neither attack clears up the prob, and resetting surge as previously advised, then other possibilities do raise their head.

  • Problems with power getting to the battery to allow correct recharge
  • Battery may simply be burnt out. Any repair specialist should be able to test this for you quickly enough.

Lastly, if you are concerned over the advice given by your service guy, give IBM's tech support a call (at less than 2 yrs old, I would assume is still under warranty)... they may even have another idea or two which hasn't been thought of here. It doesn't sound like a motherboard issue, as one would expect that if this were the case, would not be running on A/C power either.

hey kaninelupus thanks
i will do what u have told me
sorry about the confusion actually i replied to you and james together so it was more confusion, actually james asked if i was connected to net when the camera was on, so i answer that and merged it to your reply,

thanks,i will do what u have suggested and get back, thanks a lot

Hello...I am back.......without any success
My laptop is as it is many lenovo service centre people have directly said buy a new laptop thats the best as they want to sell out their new products instead of telling me what to do with this. I have bought it for 60,000 in 2007 so cant just chuck it off. I want to try out something at least.
I wanted to take a backup of my D drive and try something out then dont know what.
Current status is when i go to take a backup Easy Capture which is the camera option keeps popping (even though i uninstalled it through program features) and now whats new is Media Player also started popping up and keep opening. (Shuttle centre which used to pop up has stopped after i uninstalled it but media players started opening instead). Both these keep opening until the memory is low as i get a message restart the laptop as the memory is low.
One more thing my laptop has a one key recovery so it automatically recovers the drivers and windows (so as i uninstalled the Easy Capture it now says some dll file is missing).
I m tired of this and cant see my laptop dying.
Please tell me a last option so that I can try out on my own (i dont have any experience in the software or hardware field) as I cant trust these service centre people who dont care for the laptop and are into sales more.
Please HELP

Always have a Linux Bootable CD/Flash drive. It should help you. And can you access boot menu?

That's always handy for file recovery (would recommend Knoppix, as nice and small and great for such a task), but this sounds completely beyond a simple OS or driver issue (I'm assuming anjali7 has run Recovery Disk as has been advised on several occasions).

@anjali7 - if you HAVE NOT run a recovery disk to reset to factory settings, PLEASE do so. Of course, back up all your files (DO NOT worry about trying to either backup entire OS - ie disk image - or even your profile... start clean).

If you have in fact run recovery and are still seeing these issues, then is likely a HARDWARE issue. If you HAVE NOT run a recovery, there is no real way at this point in deciding if this a case of an OS failure/corruption.

If still seeing these issues after a recovery, and your local service centre giving you the run-around, contact Leveno DIRECTLY and let them know this... I'm sure they'll be as unimpressed as you are. Have dealt with Leveno over here in Australia (wife's old notebook one of theirs) and they were really good at ensuring any repairs were taken care of.

hi is that the blue screen which comes when u press F12 while starting the laptop?????
see the laptop get switched on only with the external power supply thats the power cord without which it does not work.
When it comes on the Camera, Media Player etc keep on popping up decreasing the memory................

No, that is the BIOS, but you'll need that open. In order to run a boot disc, you need to go into the boot options and set the first boot option to your DVD drive.... otherwise it will ignore any disk you put in and boot from HDD (which is obviously not working for all that well).

Once that is set-up, boot up as normal and DL a copy of Knoppix - you'll want the CD not the DVD... these are also the bittorrent links so read on. Now I suggest Knoppix for two reasons. You don't know how long your system is going to hold, so you want something small. Is also very light-weight, so less stress on your system if it does in fact prove to be a hardware issue. I would still recommend using a bittorrent client like uTorrent to DL (supported by Knoppix, so nothing illegal), so that if your system crashes mid download it can resume on reboot.

Once DL'd, you should be able to double-click on the ISO file and burn off with what-ever disk-creation utility you are using... is already set to record as a boot disk so don't have to fiddle with all that.

Once burnt of, you can reboot system... will likely see a prompt on power-up, along the lines of "hit any key to boot from CD". Now just remember you'll need a portable device (thumb drive or external HDD) to copy all you files onto.

OK - now before I guide you any further, can you let us know the exact model of your Leveno laptop. With most notebooks you'd require a boot disk to reinstall Windows, but if I remember correctly, most Leveno laptops actually have a button on the cosole to access the hidden partition instead.

Now from all you have posted it is in fact highly likely it is going to prove to be a hardware issue, but you've got nothing to lose in trying a fresh install before taking it in for some serious repairs.
