On one of my PC's with NIS, I have begun to get a pop-up message requesting that I activate the product. Attempts to do such have failed, and the product was activated upon installing 6 mos. ago or so anyway. Other machines that I have that are runing the same software have no such issue. I cannot find a reference to this problem on the Symantec website. I need some help please!!

Your not trying to active the same product on various machines i imagine, because that wouldn't work. Perhaps reinstall it, or activate over the phone. I've only activated one copy of NIS, but I don't think their are much configuration that can be done to get it to work. Obviously ensure all Firewalls are deactivated for the process.
