Summary and immediate steps

The screenshots and the thread replies indicate this is not a “registry error” but nuisance popups delivered as Messenger-style alerts and adware, not Windows corruption. was right that the alerts are bogus; and were also on track recommending the Messenger service be disabled. The practical, low-risk actions below stop the messages quickly and remove the common causes.

How to stop the Messenger-service popups (manual)

  1. Open Services: Start -> Run -> services.msc.
  2. Find the service named "Messenger" (not the MSN/Windows Messenger chat client).
  3. Double-click it, click Stop, set Startup type to Disabled, then Apply -> OK.

Command-line alternative:

net stop messenger
sc config messenger start= disabled

Cleanup and prevention

  • Run a current, reputable anti-malware scan (full system scan with up-to-date definitions).
  • Check browser add-ons/toolbars and reset browser settings; enable the built-in popup blocker.
  • Review startup items (msconfig or Autoruns) and remove unfamiliar entries.
  • Avoid “registry cleaner” or paid-fix offers from unknown sites — they often do more harm than good.

Verification and follow-up
After stopping the service and cleaning, reboot and monitor for recurrence. If popups persist, capture the exact window text (or a screenshot) and check running services/processes for recently added items before making further changes. For systems still running Windows XP, consider upgrading to a supported OS or isolating the machine from the Internet, since XP is vulnerable and no longer receives security updates.

Notes on forum advice
The simple disable step is usually enough; tools such as ShootTheMessenger provide a one-click option but are not required. Advice to buy or run unknown “registry” fixes (as promoted later in the thread) should be treated skeptically.

These are bogus alerts, they're trying to sell you their prodcuts. Popup blockers will (should) block these. What did you change so that you're now getting popups?

HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP?????????????????? plzzzzz !!!!!!!!!

(I use windows xp)

Hi,
These are Messenger spams. Download GRC ShootTheMessenger and disable the Messenger Service using it.

they are correct, messenger spams, and are considered illegal. disable your messenger service and they will go away (not to be confused with your MSN messenger chat service)
