I just reformatted my hardrive and put on Windows 2000 Pro. I tried to get the latest security updates through Microsoft. None of the updates will work. They all start and then stop and give the error saying: The server did not respond...

Did you get a return code with that, here is a guide on how to decifer it.

You may need to look in Control Panel - Admin Tools - Event Viewer. Check out any system errors at the time of the failure that relate.

Have you tried with any firewalls disabled?
over what period did you try, maybe the server was to blame?

Also try installing the latest service pack on its own first, then the patches, one at a time maybe.
