Hi... can anyone tell me if you can make a Windows XP Laptop a Targetted Disk

Like you can on an Apple Mac (holding the T key)... and then attach using USB to retrieve
files before doing a clean install... a friends laptop has the dreaded blue screen and wont
allow the PC to boot up....

As far as I'm aware, no. Can the system boot into safe mode? Is there a recovery partition?

you need to remove the harddrive and use a external device to hook it to another computer i fit will not boot to safe mode[hitting f8 on bootup]

If your friend's laptop had the BSOD than you should have a look at the hardware. It could be the RAM that is dying. If not I would suggest to you what caperjack has suggested.
