I was re-installing win xp home edition, I choose not to format completely in order to get some data, so i select format (quick) and the reinstallation run smoothly but when the computer restarted i got error "the file asms on windows xp home edition service pack 1 cd needed" I don't know what to do now even i insert the cd and i give the the path its not working I don't know why?

You know wether you do a quick or full after the format the data will be cleared.

-Both: Clear data from the disk

-Quick: Just clears data
-Full: Checks disk for bad sectors and clears data

Do you have another cd drive on the computer?

If so try it.

or

If you have a floppy disk use this to make 6 XP boot disk boot from disk and install.
