i cant get a default gateway on my pc and i think it might have had something to do with my internet security because i had a gateway before i put the security on. i am running a trendnet usb adapter and i have a strong signel. o thought it might have had something to do with that but i hooked my pc onto the familys router and still have nothing
so any advie would be nice

Any security suite that's this unfriendly should be uninstalled.
Most of these programs have settings for allowing network connections, and you're welcome to poke around until you figure it out, but I think these programs are serious overkill for most home users.

That is probably the problem. U can use more light weight and free alternatives like AVG free antivirus and comodo firewall.

Uninstall the security program, which may be blocking the gateway.
