Would you please explain the differences in a router an a hub and their uses with broadband. Thanks in advance.

This is a very simplistic way to look at it, but a hub is basically like a central connection point. It allows for sharing of a network and the Internet, but all users have to have their own IP addresses, etc. A router acts like the control center of a network. You only need one public IP address and the router assigns it's own private IP's to the inside network. You get much more safety, control, and versatility with a router.

Plain and simple: Hubs can't connect you to broadband. Routers can.
