I bought a Netgear router but I had so many problems trying to set it up that I decided to just use 2 wireless adapters and create an ad-hoc network.
I'm trying to create this network with two desktop pc's that are in two different rooms but not that far apart.
My problem is this: I've gotten to the point where I can share files between the 2 computer's but I can't get on-line with the other computer. One of the computer's is connected to the internet via broadband and I want to be able to use the broadband on the other computer which is still on dial-up. When I try to get on-line with the 2nd computer I get a "DNS server unreachable or unavailable" error.
The adapter I'm using is a Netgear WG111v2 and in the user's manual on the cd that came with it it says: "Ad-hoc mode will not work using DHCP settings. Ad-hoc mode requires static i.p. addresses such as (192.168.0.1). For instructions on setting up static i.p. addresses on a Windows PC, refer to the PC Networking Tutorial on the Netgear 54 Mbps wireless USB 2.0 adapter wg112V2 RESOURCE CD."
The only problem with that is the tutorial they mention isn't anywhere to be found on the cd that came with this adapter. I guess what I need is someone who can tell me how to set up the static i.p. addresses.
