Re: Why would we upload tutorials to Github and then have moderators manage them there? Why not just post the tutorials straight onto DaniWeb?

As many of you may be aware, DaniWeb was originally hit by the Google Panda algorithm back in February. We finally made a full recovery (and then some!) during the Panda update at the end of July. We were just hit by Panda yet again this past week, which was …
Re: We cache the forum listing pages for guests who aren't logged in. Do you log out/log in?
Re: When you do site:domain.com, it is NOT an accurate tool to measure how many pages on your site are indexed by Google. You need to use Google Webmaster Tools at www.google.com/webmasters/ to get a more accurate picture. Then, as has been suggested, create a Sitemap.
Re: Hi, thanks for pointing that out. It looks like there's an unescaped character in a post that was made on that date that is creating some type of syntax error. When I attempt to load the Python RSS feed in Chrome on my mac, it displays, but gives the following …
Re: Yeah, I posted in the Apple forums a little bit ago. Definitely sad news.
Re: It used to happen a few times a year a long time ago. Basically it was a period of a few days when Google's rankings would constantly be reshuffled, and then eventually settle into a new algorithm.
We currently use Salesforce.com, but I find the interface very clunky. It often takes quite a few clicks to get anything accomplished. There are no plans to switch to different CRM software. I know that Salesforce has a strong API. is there any standalone Windows software that can be used …
Re: If you're not sure what OScommerce is, than odds are you don't need it. :) I think your first step should be to decide what type of project you want to focus on. Do you want to create a blog? A forum? etc
I want to encourage more people to do sitewide searches because our analytics show that people who use our search feature spend 5-10X longer on the site. Additionally, being a Q&A forum, it's just a great practice to search before you post, so the same question doesn't end up being …
Re: I'm wondering that if you only do custom prices, many people might be a bit leery that you're doing some funky math on them or that prices are completely subjective and even arbitrary. They'll also feel the need to haggle and barter down with you. I think any successful company …
Sooo ... some bad news. As many of you know, we made a full 120% recovery from our battle with Google Panda a couple months ago. Unfortunately, *something* has struck again. Whether another iteration of Panda or something else, we once again lost more than half of our traffic overnight. …
Re: Our latest batch of tshirts just finally arrived at the office and we're definitely going to be using these for an upcoming batch. Stay tuned!! :)
Re: We have been having a lot of problems with our search feature for quite awhile. It often returns unrelevant results, and for most queries, returns nothing. Additionally, half the features on the Advanced Search page didn't work at all. We just switched back (for the second time) to using Google …
Re: A link circle (or link wheel) is where site A links to site B and site B links to site C and site C links to site D and site D links back to site A. There can be an infinite number of links in the wheel. The idea is …
Re: I've been doing a lot of work on caching things behind the scenes, and coupled with the significant decrease in traffic, pretty much had no other choice than to get rid of two of our servers. That went well. Unfortunately, the employee at the hosting company decided to accidentally pull …
Re: It really comes down to creating and producing them. We have a way to embed youtube videos into articles if anyone cares to take a stab at it. We've dabbled with the idea in-house but just don't have the manpower or experience right now.
Re: Well, when Windows 8 comes out :) Depending on how different it is from Windows Vista/7, we might either combine it or give it its own forum.
Re: What on earth is Gooplex? It looks like a French real estate site??
Re: Google PR, or PageRank, is a part of Google's ranking algorithm in which every individual page of a site is ranked (aka has its own Page Rank) based on how many other pages on the web link to it, and the authority of those pages (in other words, the quality …
I've just started using Folding@Home, and I thought we might create a DaniWeb Folders team. For those of you who would like to be a part of our fight to cure diseases, by using your unused CPU time, please check out http://folding.stanford.edu When setting up your client, enter Team # …
Re: I am assuming it is similar to a link wheel, although I haven't heard the term before. It's most likely where a bunch of sites all link to each other in a way where Google is meant to not catch on that it's reciprocal linking, and therefore the PageRank flows …
I found this in a few different places around the 'net - hopefully it's helpful: How to Change Column Settings in Windows Explorer This article describes how to change the column settings in Windows Explorer. To change which columns are displayed, or change the width or order of the windows …
Re: Just likes sales are seasonal with most businesses, traffic is of course seasonal. Depending on your audience, they may be more likely to use your website during one time of the year than another. Additionally, certain times of the day or night have different traffic levels depending on the demographics …
Re: Backlinks are other sites linking to you. To have high rankings in Google, it's important to have a variety of different webpages -- all on topic and relevant to your site -- linking back to you. It's also important that they be from high quality sites. I would stay away …
Hi, How can I use preg_replace to determine if a string contains a word beginning with a pattern, and if it does, remove it? Basically I want to capture query strings from a search, but throw away search modifiers. For example, the search query string: site:daniweb.com query would just become … ![]()
![]() | Re: Unfortunately, we had some database errors the other night. After spending quite awhile trying to figure it out myself, and then finally giving in and asking a MySQL consulting firm, the conclusion drawn was that the all-time list of activity points was too resource intensive to compute, and it actually … ![]() |

Re: Hi there! Welcome to DaniWeb :) We have a huge software dev audience so you'll fit right at home here.
Re: > how about placing a date check script on the reply buttons Because the majority of people use Quick Reply, not the full reply button to go to the advanced editor. The message that the thread is older than N days is located directly above the Quick Reply.
Re: I know this is mildly offtopic, but do people really get significant traffic from article directories nowadays? I would have suspected you'd get far more traffic from heavily promoting articles through Twitter and social bookmarking sites.
Re: Highave, I'm not quite sure what you're asking?
Re: Links in signature are always allowed unless they contain foul language, are illegal, etc. Only the actual post content qualifies for having moderator action taken upon it (including being called spam). However, as Julienne pointed out, actual post content can qualify as being spam if it is nonsensical, etc.
Re: I don't think it's necessary. Focus on having great content, and encourage other people to link to your website. The search engines will find you and index you that way. I don't really know anyone who manually submits to the search engines anymore, and paying $300 for a directory submission … |
