A blog, or weblog, is like an online diary, and can be either personal or professional. Blog articles are the individual entries within a blog. Typically when I just hear the word "article" I think more of something that underwent a formal editorial review, which blogs don't.

Yeah ... no one was watching the database :( Slave db server is still down but hoping to have it resolved as soon as James' flight lands and I pick him up from the airport and drag him over to my computer.

So sorry the site has been down for a few hours this early morning. It happened when it was time to switch the clocks back (the servers didn't like that), and James was on a flight to New York to come visit me. The site appears to be working for …

Never give up, and never get discouraged. It took DaniWeb about a year before we started to break ground. We are now nearly ten years old. Just keep creating new good, quality content, and more and more people will naturally link to it and recommend it to their friends.

Pay-per-click can be a valuable tool when used in conjunction with an organic SEO campaign. On DaniWeb, we rely on organic SEO for all our longtail traffic to all of our forum threads. This is where the majority of our ad revenue comes from. However, we then rely on Google …

It's fine as long as there is only one web URL used to access a page. For example, you don't want domain1.com and domain2.com showing the same content. But if domain1.com automatically directs to domain2.com when you go to the site, that's fine. It's also fine to have multiple domain …

Don't worry about trying to get more unique visitors right now. If the existing visitors you have all bounce, the better strategy is to work on how to make the most of your existing visitors. Work on lowering your bounce rate, and getting existing users to visit more pages on …

It does't even help with ad revenue. It's great to boast a big number, but no one is going to even pay attention if you boast 846,356 versus 983,245. Big deal ;) We used to increase by about 1,500 new registrations per day. However, then, after complaint after complaint, I …

Personally I don't see the benefit of directory submissions nowadays. It's always important to gain backlinks, but I would focus on getting links from quality, relevant pages across the web. Not just listings in free-for-all directories.

I don't think link wheels work anymore. The concept was that a bunch of sites each link to each other, with the "circle" being big enough that Google doesn't catch on. But they know ;) Ooooh they know ;)

You need a credit card. As vanessa suggests, I would start out with Google AdWords. It's powerful and can get complicated, but it also offers a starting point of only a penny a click, and new users get $50 free to start out with. Plus, it's pretty much the de …

Continue to do what you're doing. Don't give up. Work on forming relationships with other sites in your industry. Promote your RSS feeds as a means of getting other relevant sites to syndicate your content (Just titles/blurbs, not full content).

Hi Phil, Unfortunately I have absolutely no experience at all with Website Optimizer, so I probably can't be of much help. However, I noticed that http://secure.ultracart.com automatically redirects to https://secure.ultracart.com. I'm wondering if the cross-domain thing doesn't work when switching from the http protocol to https? Have you tried to …

Yes, it's legal, because if the job sites didn't want to allow it, they wouldn't be providing RSS feeds to use. However, mashup sites like these (sites that aggregate multiple RSS feeds) tend to not do so well in the search engines, and even worse off since the Google Panda …

Since switching to this design, the number of new threads posted daily has decreased by 75%. New posts, new registrations, and traffic has remained consistant. Is the "new thread" button really hard to locate? Confusing? What is wrong?

Each individual page should only target one or two keywords. The keywords shouldn't be repeated in an unnatural way. They should be built naturally into the content.
