Re: The only way I know how to layer is with the z-index. You can use JavaScript to launch the Print dialog box upon accessing a webpage, but the OK button would still need to be clicked in the dialog box (the one where it asks you to specify a printer …

Hey guys. As you know, we have a code snippet library at http://www.daniweb.com/code/ (or just click the Code Snippets link in the navigation bar). Right now, the code snippets are sorted by language. Once inside a language, the code snippets are sorted based on their rating first, views second. However, …
If you read people's posts, you'll notice that some people have stars under their name. One star for every 1,000 posts the person makes. What I"m thinking of adding is a second ratng system that illustrates the number of posts a person has in the current forum. For example, Narue …
Re: Good luck with the project ... a hand-edited directory is a big task indeed! You can make money by running AdSense or other contextual based advertising on the page. Something you might consider is within the form to "Add a Link" to the directory, you might have an added option: …
Re: Oh, wow! Good luck with VS.NET. No experience from here going your way, I'm sorry to say.
Re: I don't know anything about it but I thought I would welcome you to our community. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Re: Hi! Welcome :) Why don't you go ahead and post your question in our Windows Software forum => http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/forum99.html You should get replies there b/c that forum is filled with all these Windows techies who can offer more assistance than I :)
Re: Google does have a "SafeSearch" feature which automatically filters out that sorta stuff. However, it's something that can be enabled or disabled at a click from within your Google preferences. I don't believe there's a way to set parental control to make sure only searches with SafeSearch can be run.

Re: Hi Cindy! Welcome. I would begin by asking the folks over in the Computer Science forum. http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/forum14.html Or, you can stop by the Software Development Lounge :) http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/forum27.html
Re: With DaniWeb, I created DaniWeb LLC (I don't have any type of small business license or anything) and I filed my taxes back in April. What country are you from? I guess everywhere's different.
Re: A fantastic place to make contacts is on forums. Many webmaster forums, including this one, offer a Marketplace area.
Re: I'm completely confused by what you're referring to. However, I think your question is better served in our PHP forum because it seems more like a programming question.
As you guys may already know, we have our own IRC network at irc://irc.daniweb.com - Visit www.daniweb.com/chat/ for more details. What I would like to do is start holding regularly scheduled chat sessions, perhaps monthly, or if the chat grows large, and I can get a bunch of people to …
Re: You mean you're looking to advertise in an existing newsletter, or you're looking to "rent" an opt-in subscription list?
Re: Never heard of it. What does it do?
I was just wondering what ad placements work the best for everyone. For me, a left sidebar skyscraper ad used to perform the best, but I'm running a right sky at the moment. A leaderboard beneath the first post of forum threads also did very well.
Re: Virtual tollbooths, eh?
Re: If you have an existing site, I take it you already have a webhost. One of the most popular beginner forum software out there is phpBB which you can get from www.phpbb.com - it's free and just requires a webhost which supports PHP and MySQL. It also comes with easy …
Re: My newsletter, you mean? The DaniWeb monthly digest gets sent the first Tuesday of each month (or rather, Tuesday right now) to members who have "Receive email from forum admins" specified in their profiles (which is default for new member registrations, but is always easy to disable).
What day of the week has worked out best to send newsletters or digets to your members? Right now I have them set to go out on the first Monday of every month. However, I'm wondering if Monday is not the best day because people are in the whole "back …
I am currently running one script between two databases. This means that halfway through the script, I need to run [inlinecode]mysql_select_db()[/inlinecode] and then farther down in the code, run it again to switch back to the original database. My question, essentially, is if the overhead in doing this is hideously …
Re: Welcome ... check out our web development and webmaster forums. Also, once you get your site up and running (it seems to be under some construction right now) you might wish to ask for a Site Review in the site reviews forum.
Re: Considering I just added some social networking features to DaniWeb ...
I was discussing with NBF how I want to raise participation rates here on DaniWeb, and she pointed me to the following blog entry that she found: http://www.martinibuster.net/2006/06/growing-forum-participation.html She said it reminded her of me. So ... what do you guys think? Valid points or just BS?
Re: I don't think a whole forum is warranted yet since there are only about 4 people max who use it ... what I think would be a good idea right now is to post them in the Techie's Lounge and sticky them in there. Then, when the security scares are …
I've added some features to member profiles worth mentioning, in an attempt to add a social networking aspect to the site. The overview: Every member profile includes ... - a listing of the member's favorite forums (which forums they post the most in) along with how many posts they have …
