Is it necessary to add the plural form of keywords into an AdWords campaign? In other words, would I need to have keywords: widget, widgets, blue widget, blue widgets, red widget, red widgets, etc?

There is no best number. For me, I get about a 5% conversion rate for search engine traffic and about a 3% conversion rate overall. But there is a difference between members and actie members. I would rather have 1 really active, dedicated member than 100 members who registered and never visited again.

I am having a problem with my MySQLd on db2.daniweb.com going through periods of 1-2 minutes every couple of hours where it refuses connections from Apache on web.daniweb.com. The error being thrown back is:
mysql_pconnect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on '10.0.0.2'
As you can see, I'm using persistent connections since I understand that they are more efficient when the web and database servers are not on the same machine, to eliminate the constant handshake overhead.
The Aborted_clients variable seems to constantly and continuously increment throughout the day. I am wondering if this is a hacking attempt where someone is constantly trying to connect to the MySQL server with an incorrect username and password. The aborted_connects variable is synonymous with when I encounter downtime, and it represents the number of visitors to my php-driven website who are unable to connect to the MySQL server.

For all I know, it could be a bug in a beta version of IE7 :) As soon as IE7 is released, I'll install it and make sure DaniWeb works with it.

A relevant active forum with having your link in signature is a good place to get links in terms of traffic.

Not only that, but it also helps get your name out there with others in your field, which gives your site a good reputation as a valuable resource for your industry. That's why it's as important to post on other forums as on your own (if you have your own, that is) :)

You're definitely on the right track with some good tips. I think where most people go wrong is that they try to design their site for the search engines and not for the humans. Instead of spending so much time thinking about how to get more backlinks, instead focus all that time and energy to improving the website for its readers, so that they will want to naturally link back to you.

Narue is an equal staff member on DaniWeb. The way that the flag bad post system currently works is that when a post is flagged, a ticket regarding the issue is created in a private area visible only to staff. This allows for such threads to be handled most efficiently since any staff member can deal with the thread and mark it solved. Staff should, in theory, handle moderation issues impartially. We are, however, all human.

This is different than the reputation system! I agree, that no member or moderator should see who reputation came from.

When one clicks on Flag Bad Post, on the other hand, there is a message indicating that: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts. Clearly, you can see how it would be valuable for threads fitting this description to be brought to the attention of all staff so that they are handled as quickly as possible by whomever happens to be online at the time.

I'm very confused by what you're trying to say. I fail to see the flaw in the flag notification system. However, it comes down to this:

I don't want Narue to step down either. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I recognize her as a valuable asset to our community. I will be the first to admit she'll be missed. It was, however, her decision.

As a result of this and other incidences, Narue has decided to step down as moderator :( Despite her "tell it like it is" attitude, she is very knowledgeable and has been a great asset to our community. With that said, I don't want this to go any further.

The lilac color scheme is not my fault. Quote boxes originally were in pale yellow and then pale grey but I received complaints that they were hard to see (especially on some laptops). I didn't want to introduce a new color (aside from a variant of yellow, grey, or purple) into the design and so light purple was the only one left. If you ask me, it reminds me of php.net

Hmm ... 75 characters is a lot for an Internet forum. While your posts might be of a higher quality, have you noticed a decline in new posts per day? It's possible many people might type a quick reply, see it not go through, so just say "the heck with this" and never bother to elaborate on it.

Well I don't allow any users to see any other users email addresses (unless the member specifically enables the Download vCard option). But, it is a security concern for me, as well ... ie the ability to see birthdays, age, a short bio located in the profile, etc.

Is it possible there is a proxy server at work that is caching the old DNS?

There really hasn't been any consistant downtime. We were down two or three times over the past week, with no time being for more than an hour, in addition to about 5 hours during which DaniWeb was read-only while the database was being transferred to the new server.

Everything should be perfectly fine as of yesterday. I am an IE 6 user myself so DaniWeb definitely works in IE. Additionally, I'm in NY and the server is down in Texas, so it's not as if I have any special connection to the web server. If you can't access the site from one browser but you can from another on the same machine, I suspect you have something cached or perhaps a software firewall is acting up.

Reporting posts as solved is not a new feature. Moderators mark threads as solved when they come across them as such, and the thread starter also has the ability to mark his or her own thread as solved.

After you retrieve a MySQL resource array, one usually loops through it to output it. Within that loop, simply use an IF clause, and only output if a particular condition is true.
