Crunchie,
I would like to say I am sorry for reading to fast and not paying attention to your post. In Device manager under processors it shows two processors, and shows both to be working. I am realy sorry for the confusion on my part.
Crunchie,
I would like to say I am sorry for reading to fast and not paying attention to your post. In Device manager under processors it shows two processors, and shows both to be working. I am realy sorry for the confusion on my part.
My file reads this, "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="My Bad Ass Machine" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut"
should it not say optin instead of optout?
when i CLICK ON EITHER LINE OF CPU USAGE, IT JUST ENLARGES IT.
There is not an option to choose one or two graphs. Just has the one, "show one graph per CPU", and it is selected. You think I got a bad one?
Also when i CLICK ON EITHER LINE OF CPU USAGE, IT JUST ENLARGES, IT WONT SEPERATE.
Sorry to be confusing, but if it says, "use one graph per CPU', then what I get out of it is that per CPU in this case two, there should be two graphs. I could be wrong. I just hate to send my mother board off and have to be without it for so long, I use it in my business. That's why I was wondering if there was a for sure way to find out because I am confused on device manager showing two, and the task manager showing two on the bar but only showing one graph. To me I am not convinced either way. I still do not know.
On the view options in task manager>Performance>View Options>Cpu History, it says "Use one graph per CPU".
So Maybe I have bad Core?
Sorry about the thumbnail, Hope this is better.
It is showing two processors on the left top in the pic I posted, but the graph to the right top is set to "only use one graph for both Processors". Thanks for the help.
Wow, Ok, It is definitely running two, Just using one graph. So it is with the program I am assuming. Thanks a lot for the help!!!!
I have an M2n-SLI Deluxe motherboard w/ AMD 64 X2 +6000 processors. I updated my bios from the suggestions of ASUS and AMD technical, all went fine except when I run my "Ableton Live" recording program, in the preferences tab, there is an option for "Support Dual Core Processors", and it is greyed out. I can not change the option to dual core. I contacted "Ableton Tech Support", and they sent me a tool to run so I could send results back to them, and they replied,
"this says that you are using a processor with only one core.
That is the reason why Live doesn't offer the CPU Multicore option - There are no multiple cores.
A google search revealed that the Athlon 64 X2 IS a multicore processor.
Maybe your Bios settings are somehow wrong or the operating system doesn't allow multiple processors."
So how do I tell if I am using dual core? I have checked bios and it shows dual core, and in system properties, I show both processors.
Help before warranty runs out!!! lol
Yes Caperjack, I deserved that, and never figured I would answer the only fix to myself. I owe it to Daniweb for me to take the time to help others as a kind of trade off for the help I have recieved. I appologise for not returning the help to others and for only posting help for my self. I will make it up, by donations and tr4y to help solve some problems, I love this sight, and Caperjacks comment really got to me,,, I feel so selfish now. Man,,,, talk about your all around bad days.
Go to properties, advanced settings, turn hard war ecceleration down until screen goes too 800x600, goto monitor properties, make sure your monitor type is chosen
I need to run a new registry cleaner I bought because(Laptop) cpu will not go on line, but in safe mode, the screen is set to 640x480 and when I run the program, I can do everything but click the fix button because it is to low on screen. I tried the tab button and it only has minimize and close at tap. Any tips? I also can drag it up to the top but just not enough.
I have a program that is not in add/remove programs that is in control panel called "Paperport One Touch". It was a scanner and I do not use it anymore, but I can not delete the program. Any clues?
Thank you, Your advice helped alot!!!
I have purchased a wireless network card for my Laptop, "linksys 2.4ghz wireless g with srx
model: wpc54gx". I am confused which router to buy. What do I need to purchase? I have looked at this one, "Linksys WRT54GS Wireless G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster in ..." Does it work with my card? I have bidded on this one, "Router w/wireless BEFSR41W", Just a .99 cent bid, will this one work with my card? Help, I am so confused.
WOW,,, I did it.
Here's how!!!!
If you are getting an error message for missing MAXKERNL.dll, you will need all 5 of these files. Copy them into the following folders
c \paprport
c \Windows
c \Windows\system
c \Windows\system32
You will also want to copy these into c \program files\visioneer\PaperPort if there is such a folder.
Good luck!

You get these by down loading these two files from driver guide
1)5300usbScanner_Drivers.zip
2)onetouchdlls.zip
I am learning,,,, maybe should have read more before I posted, but may be this will help someone else!!!
My mom give me this scanner, Visioneer One Touch 5300 usb, and the cd that came with it is win 98. Without using cd I plugged it in and used my subcription to driver guide.com to find the driver, it recognized the device and give me the driver, I installed it and win xp recognized the scanner then and installed driver. When I start the scanner it tells me to click to connect, then searches, then tells me it can not connect to scanner. If I just start the scanner in program files, it will come up so you can lay out the scanner job, but when I select scan, I get an error say this, "OneTouch Monitor has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
My Brother had this working on Win XP on moms old CPU, But he is out of pocket on buisness for a couple of weeks. Any Clues, tips, or help, I would be very thankful for.
Gerbil,
before I read your post, you must have read my mind, I just used a little bit of elimination of elements to figure it out.
([boot loader]
timeout=4
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
This was correct, it was doing what and where it was supposed to be doing, (of course you knew that, lol), the problem was that the bios was told to load like "1, 2, 3", but the boot file says we have to load "2, 1, 3," so in order for it to exucute and read the boot file it had to load that drive first and instead it was loading it second. I changed the boot device priority, (hard drive, cdrom), but then since I have multiple drives, I hade to tell the bios what drive to load first. Did I make any sence at all in explaining my repair? lololol..... Thank you again so much,,,, I will save this info in my book of fixit's, it's a realy big book!!!
And after all of redoing the cpu, I do not see where I gained anything but a lot more different drives to scatter up and a faster boot up!!!!! And of course I got a computer lesson.
Thanks Again Gerbil.
"It's people like you that have the patience and knowledge, that gives us newbs just enough courage and curiosity to tear a computer up."_Billy E. Pettit
O.K. Bro, this is what I got,,,,, I followed everything you said, and I set hard drive back to first boot, cdrom second, system boots and I get a long pharagraph saying canot load from the device, check your hardware configuration blah, blah, blah. I hit any key to reboot, pressing F8 key, I choose the C drive, next screen I choose normal boot, next screen I click the only instalation listed named, "My Bad Ass Machine", (you said I could say what ever I wanted in the quotes), and this is all without cd in drive. maybe got the wrong numbers of drive (multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)) wrong? Sorry to bang your head Gerbil!!!
yes, good night, you are a geniuse!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!
ok, followed to a "t" but I cant make disk(1) sillybilly's storage, unactive, I did however make active my "E" drive but have not restarted yet,,,, a little nervouse,,,lol.
No pata drives, disk (0) and disk (1) are regular hard drives ata/ide, and the disk (2) is sata. disk (3) is an internal ata/ide that i use as external in a usb converter that I can turn on and off. Not much on this here situation, I conscidered my self an advance user but never delt with this problem before,,, lol. So before I change anything I want to be clear on your instructions. I dont know what happened with the letter assignment cause "C" is usualy the master like you said. I am not clear on this part......"To get around that you make [by setting the jumper] Disk 2 Master on its controller, copy over those three files from C: and then set E; as the only active partition on your set. Should work. Your system and boot partitions would then be one and the same." I am going to check jumpers while you read,,, again, I can't thank you enough for the lesson and help!!!
Part two
attached is new disk management after jumper settings change. I changed nothing but jumpers until I confirm steps that I am not clear on..
ok, before I change this, I do not know why system and boot got seperated, the ethan miles drive is a hard drive for storage for my recording studio only, can I put boot and system on the system drive without having to reinstal?
goto folder options click file options and look for .exe type file and click " to change this settings" button.
have you tried to goto control panel and then mouse settings and make sure they are set to default?
right click on desk top, select properties, then desktop, choose none, then choose screen saver and choose none, then choose appearence and change to something other than what your using. if that doesn't work, see the virus and spyware removal forums.
Make sure that the hard drive is partitioned. put in the xp cd and boot from disk, select repair, then when in repair mode, type "chkdsk /p /r" without quotes. if thats not it, boot from cd select install windows now, at prompt hit F8 to agree, then hit r for repair, select the partition with your instal of windows, and press repair.
First, make sure that you have not blowed a speaker perhaps. Take an ohm meter and check the ohms of each speaker, the specs should be on case of speaker. If it's 4 ohm speaker, as long as it reads 3 to 5 ohms, you should be ok, speaker is good. If you do not have an ohm meter, take a 9 volt battery and plac a wire on the (+) & a wire on the (-) side of battery, then touch the to wires to the corresponding (+) & (-) on the speaker and just touch don't hold, and you will hear the speaker pop. Pop sound is speaker good. this also checks phase of speaker, if you touch wires and it pushes out, you have pos. and neg. wires right, if it sucks in, reverse your wires. If all is good, with speakers, then check balance output, the your other settings, uninstall sound driver, reinstal, if still not working, then asume sound card is bad.
O.k. itsays healthy with (boot) as I typed it, if I right click mouse on it, I have the option to make active, Do I need to do this?. I attached a pic of disk management for you to see. Thanks so much for your help.
I formated drive and partitioned the drive, installed windows xp and is back to it's old self, but if I change bios settings to boot from hard disk as first boot device instead of cdrom (for instaling win xp) I get a "boot disk failer" error. If I have it boot cdrom as first device and hard drive second then restart it goes through start up then to "hit any key to boot from cd", but I do not press any buttons, then it will boot and I can remove disk and still all is good, until I restart, then I have to have the win xp cd in drive. Help????
My cpu began to slow down so I followed some advice from responses in a post I put up, still did not fix it after exhausting hours of cleaning and such. I had backed up my system with windows back up utility a few days ago and so I went to restore it,full backup and system state, and BLAM,,, it goes through the windows welcom screen then a black screen lock up with no keyboard lights. I then put win xp fresh install on a nother slave drive to fix my main drive, now niether will boot!!!! HELP please!!!
I have cleaned and recleaned and followed all the forum tips I can find, and my cpu is still slow at boot, and just acting funny. Heres my system if this helps also.

Well over time my cpu has slowed down and I have followed all of the cleaning and virus/maleware/trojen cleanup procedures and I am clean as a whistle, but I have a very slow boot up. My question is, can I just reinstall windows and not loose any files or important stuff and would this be the fix for my problem? Question 2.... Is there any thing else I should do since I have done the intense clean to help this problem?
Where would I find the config settings to set up my Nvidia nforce network controlers. I can find info on them all but configuration set up.
Wow, interesting, but still do not know which to use, being first time and all, I would love it to be dumby proof! lol... Thanks again, an interesting subject.
Thanks for the info,,, Do you have any suggestions on a bench mark program while playing quake2?
I have tried to use one benchmarking utility, "Mark3 or 5" and I was realy confused. Reading a few post, I am still at loss. I would like to bench mark my cpu and quake2 game while playing so I can tweak for more performance. I see post where guys have done this but no more info other than scores. Any tips for a lost soul needing some advice?
Hello,
I have within the last year built a new pc, but after all the downloading and experimenting, my machine has become cluttered and slowed down. I have read some threads that suggest having multiple partitions for certain things, which I did not do, and I have thought about just reformating and starting over. The problem is, I do not want to loose any of my recording software projects, new music, new videos and movies, and such. I just want to make sure that I do this right. any tips??
I have two Nvidia GeForce 7600GT cards SLI enabled with a HP Pavillion M90 Monitor and I have been messing around with smoothing my quake 2. Had great results but I have read till my eyes are blurry and I need answers. High resolution and refresh rates. I have used powerstrip but my video cards control panel has custom resolutions and I have been experimenting but seem to run in circles. I set resolution at 1024 x 768 120 GDI Refresh Rate with 32 Bits per pixel. and I cant realy tell the difference from 1024 x 768 105 GDI Refresh Rate with 32 Bits per pixel. Whats the best to play the games on, I have read som play at below 800 x 600 but it's so big on the screen... What am I doing wrong? and I attached my adapter info, should it not be 1 gig plus on total memory instead of just 512?
Bought a new system, and I am Already wanting faster. I want two more gig of ram.

digitalocksmith,
Thanks so much for all the help, that was very helpful. I wish I could have found that info, guess I need a lesson on searching the internet. LOL,,,, Thanks so much!!!
Digitallocksmith,
I am sorry for the confusion, it seems in the WAN interface , all my VC's where deleted, it was empty so I could not connect. Messing with it trying to remember what was there before was almost impossible, but guessing around I have a "VC named: 0/33 > type: 2684B" and another VC, "0/35 > Type: PPPoE". They are both enabled but only the PPPoE has a box at the end of it with a check mark in it. I remeber there was before all of this two VC's and each had a check mark box that was checked, but I do not recall the type of VC's they where. Am I making any sense at all? I am so sorry.
Well I did change some settings in my modem, because I could not log on to internet after the up grade, so where would I goto for info on how to configure my modem? I can log on now but windstream says they show me not on line. I know it sounds wierd,,, did I discover something or realy screw something up?
I am using the speedstream4200 with Nvidia Nforce network adapter, How do I find out what my settings should be? upgraded from 6mb to 12mb and I can not find any info on 12mb, but 6mb is all over the place.

O.k. you got me on that one,,, but the making fun of we can do without, however I see your point and thanks for the lesson.
I am using windows xp sp2 with a 6mb download and a 388kbps upload dsl with a network with two cpu's going thrue a networklynksys hub. My main cpu when I look at Task Manager Network Utilization is only 0.5% and 0.75% at its best. How would I be able to utilize the 100mb that is there?
