If you have questions about (or problems with) Linux, stop over to www.justlinux.com; we'll buy you a beer on the house. :cheesy:
Maybe I'll drop by anyway, and take the beer... and then some...
Hello all! I've been here on these forums for quite a while... I was thinking of installing Linux on my box to dual boot with my win2k. I'm just not sure what to use... I never installed/used one before... I'm looking for something that's easy to install, configure, and has a nice GUI...
Any suggestions? right now, I have Slackware, RedHat 9, Knoppix & Fedora Core 2... haven't made up my mind on what to use yet... what are the advantages and disadvantages of each of them??
I don't reformat ever. But that is because I have never had the need to for any system I have worked on.
I know that there are occasions that it will have to be done - but it is the absolute LAST option.
Also, you say it keeps coming back, but until I said it, nobody told him to turn off system restore --- usually the reason things come back (in cases such as this) - That is unless there is an unexterminated virus, to which he has already looked into by doing his scans.
As I see it, he has only begun to troubleshoot the problems, and is miles away from the reformat stage.
Only my techie 2cents.
I 500% agree with this... a reformat is always the very last resort...
Mac OS -> Monopoly
so, Im to remove O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SystemTray] SysTray.Exe??
Maybe it has something to do with remote administrator running all the time??
I don't think it's the remote administrator... I just installed it, i hated running up and down just to fix something so small...
I don't see anything in you log to do this ,next time run and post hijack log before you delete the files
That's what I was worried about, I don't see anything wrong myself... but it still keeps on coming...
Good luck buddy they do it to get credit in pissing you off. So we talk about it like we are now. No reward I would love to do something and have everybody every where on radio on TV and on fourms talk about my spyware/virus. That's just me buddy since you seem to be very techy why not a reformat like I always recommand. Unless this is a business we can get into some work arounds. I tend to help people better over voice not text sorry buddy good luck to you keep us informed.
nah! caper's right... it's easy to reformat, but that takes the challenge away doesnt it? if the creator of this thing is really enjoying being talked about, then i'll be talked about when i do something about it... :)
It always take a little challenge to solve to move on to higher grounds...
can you give/post more details on your problem? what notebook do you have? where does the loading stop? any error messages? more info and specs can help others give you a more specific answer to your question...
I second that... I personally think that IBM's Thinkpads are one of the best and reliable laptops on the market...
hola! como esta... enjoy your stay... :)
In Windows, simply push the "Print Screen" key, then open a program such as Paintbrush, and paste it in. For a single window, you can use Alt+Print Screen. This is really simple and doesn't support any fancy options like a timer or anything like that, but it "should" work across all (AFAIK) windows desktops.
yup yup! it's as simple as that... I've been using the "Print Screen" key since time imemorial... after pressing on the prtscrn key, you can paste it on any program you want it on... Paintbrush, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Photoshop, so on and so forth... but if you want it to be saved as jpeg, paste it in a program that saves files in .jpg format such as Photoshop. You can then attach the jpg file on your posts... and voila! it should be done...

I've been having this recurring problem with a trojan (I think). everytime i leave my computer online, there are email messages being sent to random addresses. When I check on the tasks running, there are random exe files that I keep on deleting. I delete the exe files and the entries using HJT. I've just deleted some again and ran HJT... here's the log, anybody out there with more experience with log reading than I am... pls. help... I'm getting really annoyed...

oh boy! the same problem just keeps on coming back... any other suggestions???
This is crazy, folks- caperjack has given the answer to all of these spyware/adware/malware questions multiple times in this thread; why all the "thread piggybacking" on this one?
ahhh! finally, somebody got tired of reading the endless and repeating HJT logs... LOL :cheesy:
and here's my 200th... :) Im really enjoying it here very much...

I guess bridge.dll just bridged tranquility into chaos... LOL :)
If you tried those two & it didn't remove the spyware man seriously I know people might disagree with me but, I think it might be time to reformat. Besides you'll get good practice.
But of course, a reformat should always be the last resort... which means, if all else fails...
I'm having that sort of problem in my home network too, maybe somebody here can help...
Specs:
P4 1.7G
SMC ADSL Barricade Router - SMC7401BRA
Win2k SP4
The problem:
I have the computer connected to DSL Router via USB, then I have Internet Connection Sharing enabled. All 4 PCs in the network are connected via a switch. The computer that's connected to the Router has no problems, but the computers in the network that are sharing the internet connection are unable to open sites such as yahoo mail, friendster, and some other sites. I was wondering if it was the ICS, I have no idea on what to do. Any help would be very much appreciated...
I've started using mozilla.org at home and here in the office... haven't had any probs yet... i'm enjoying the tabs... :)
Oh, and btw, Dani here is the reason why i'm on mozilla now... she suggested i use it... oh well, hopefully it continues to run smoothly...
did u get it then??

Hello all...
I just reformatted my hard drive, and I am trying to install windows 98 back on it. I can not find my authenticity code. Is there any way to get a new one or find out the code for it from the cd. computer rookie!:-|
It should be written right in front of the manual that came with your Windows 98 CD.
Deltree.exe is always my ultimate deleting tool... it has never failed me yet... why don't you give it a try...
Try and get the most updated modem driver from Compaq. I think they have it in their site somewhere.
