I once wrote a program in Turbo pascal while i was in school. All I did was make it run through the autoexec.bat then display a blank screen and wait for some sort of password before it continues to boot. I did that because I always run out of computer in the internet lab... then the idiot who checks on the lab didn't know any of this, every time i go to the internet lab he tells me that everything is occupied and a computer is broken coz` it wont boot... I'd suggest that I can fix it but in doing so will make me a priority user whenever i needed to use one...

This thread has been moved to Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 since the question is about Windows XP.

Hi,
I've tried the re-boot in safe mode but this hasn't helped!

Still no ideas!!!

S

Try rebooting to MS-DOS and delete it from there...

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

was there any error while you were installing the modem drivers?

I have a win98se setup cd.But its not a upgrade ver.

Can I upgrade my computer from win98 to win98se with the

cd?

I think you can do that... but i'm not 100% sure since i don't do upgrades, it's either i stick wit what i have or have a clean install...

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

I killed myself.

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

..Or, you can give Partition Magic a try. I think it can change NTFS to FAT32, im not very sure abt this though. but what i know is, you won't lose any of the Data you have in the HDD.

just having the thought of coding windows in BASIC is already a nightmare. Imagine all the lines of codes that you'll have to do just to make a window move with a mouse showing all its contents... geeesshh...

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

I would think that it is but I'm not 100% ... can someone back me up?

I think so too, i do it all the time... have'nt had any problems manually deleting temp files...

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

I'm not sure about this... but what about a reinstall of the modem?

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

Since reformatting is always my last and ultimate option, when all else fails i reinstall windows by just deleting \windows, \program files, and the hidden files used by windows. The autoexec.bat, config.sys, msdos.sys, io.sys, and *.bak's that windows make on some of them. Then I reinstall windows by booting through the CD.. always worked for me... and in doing so, i never had to reformat a HDD and never lost important files...

This is just a suggestion though...

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

you might wanna try and read this link. I'm not very familiar with that problem, but if the link can help please tell me... :)

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

if you really want to get rid of the win98, yes, you can delete \windows\ and some of the hidden system files of win98. But Catweazle is correct, you'll have to go through all of the trouble of reinstalling the applications that you have. as for FAT32, you can always use Partition Magic or any 3rd party applicatoin that partitions HDDs.

take this as an example:

I'm allergic to pollen, whenever i get near a flower i start sneezing and it lasts for at least a day. but i can go about my own business if i always wear a face mask, in doing so, i don't get the allergies triggered by the pollen. one problem is, I live beside a flower farm...

now, a relative of mine calls me up and tells me that i can stay by her place if i want to. this relative of mine lives in the city. very minimal flowers in the vicinity therefore making me less vulnerable to allergies.

question: should i stay beside the flower farm only being able to get about my own business if i wear the proper protection or, go to an alternative place where i'm much less vulnerable to my allergies?

It's not that I really have allergies to flowers, but the point im trying to make is that, why do i have to spend time protecting myself from something when i have the option to get rid of that something that i need protecting myself with.

To the question about "do steroids make you a better player" your joking right? Well, in baseball we have this thing called a "mile high pop fly" which in the old days most would end up being caught by out fielders, but with the power behind steroids those " pop flys" are being launched out of the stadiums!

Thanks for the info... I'm really not into baseball... it's so... well, ... not physically challenging... if u get what i mean...

Hey ! Thanks to you all I did it! It took some time, but I installed xp home. Now when I turn it on, it gives me a choice 'tween xp professional and xp home.

It does show quite a few programs on prof. that aren't on home, like word, excel and powrpoint, but it wont' let me open them - looks for a set up. Any clue on if I can cross between prof. and home and use these programs???

You dudes are the best, I was estastic that I could take your directions adn do it.

Great! good for you then... :) good luck on your PC ...

I see a lot of topics posted in this forum, and in quite a number of other forums I participate in, which post 'Hijackthis' logs and end up with detailed and technical procedures to follow to rid systems of internet 'nasties'.

=> This may be because HJT is so versatile that it shows the most details that can be of help to solve most problems that they encounter.

Doing things the easy way is usually the best way to go, and that's what I do myself.

=> I agree, but what you do is not always the same as what others do. Some are so curious that when a popup window tells them to not click on a button because it will crash their system, they'll still click on it. just always remember, We Are Individuals and individuality is a good thing (and yet, not always).

Perhaps the 'Hijackthis' approach isn't the best option to take? What do others think about it?

=> Let's rephrase that. "Perhaps the 'Hijackthis' approach isn't ALWAYS the best option to take."

every moment that

it probably enhances your stamina, but will you hit better? it increases stamina and strength but will it increase accuracy? let's take basketball for example, if a basketball player took steroids he'll be stronger and faster. but will he be shooting better?

I was just wondering...

oalee 53 cyberkill(ed) Team Colleague

yes, but the thing with western digital is before you can send the drive back you need an error code from their program if you send it back without the error code they won't send you a new one. my dad told this to me I have no idea if you need the error code but I assume you do. thanks for your help

But what error code could possibly be worse than a bad sector? you don't get error codes for bad sectors? maybe you should try getting it replaced anyway. If they won't replace it then the warranty's no use at all...
