are you sure you correctly installed all the hardware? I did the same (resulted in my motherboard to fry)
My current supply is 350 Watts and by the way The system does not turn on, so I cannot check
The only difference between btx and atx is the pins if I am correct? ATX has 20 pins and BTX has 24 pins?
No it actually has a motherboard failure, his is why I am replacing the motherboard to put in the intel Q9650
Just to add, this is the struct of the ports on the computer:
3 Audio ports
3 audio ports
-----------------
3 usb ports
two usb ports + ethernet port on the left side
-----------------
vga port side ways
turquoise port side ways below vga
pink printerport to the left which is on it's side also
-----------------
4 PCI slots available for expansion

can you give us the current computer specs (processor, motherboard, RAM) Will be more helpful to tell you compatible upgrade options.
At the moment the computer is the following specs:
3.0GHz Petium 4 processor
2GB ram
Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit
128MB ATI Raedon X300 Graphics card
However I want a 64-bit enable processor and am currently looking at intel Q9650 as I got another dell computer with vista ultimate 64-bit (i will use this to install on to my dell dimension 5000 with the above specs.)
The current motherboard is unrepairable as it has fryed.
Will the intel Q9650 fit the dell dimension 5000? they both have the same socket (750)
Thanks for asking: cannot give motherboard name due to dell have not allowed it to be printed on
If you have expensive preloaded stuff I would not recomend formatting your hard drive because Windows 7 will overwrite everything. But is yor hard drive partitioned??
Hello fellow dani webers,
I have a old system at my house: Dell dimension 5000. it has been running for 5 years without any problems. I wanted to buy a new motherboard for this computer which is 64-bit enabled. It got to be at least a core 2 Duo. Any suggestions which motherboard is comatible with this PC?
Thanks for your help in advance

Mate your hard drive needs help...
If you got a second computer, that can fix the errors on ya hard drive and then it should load up normally when you insert it in the orginal computer/laptop
why don't you try to charge the PSU on a different pc??
Personally I think bing is a bit stupid because I mean when you search for something in a search engine that is what you want to know; you don't make a "informed decision" on wheather you want to view it or not! you type it in the search engine because you want to know about it!!
do you have a second computer?
I would say burn it as an ISO on a CD so you can try it out. However if you really like it, it gives you an option to install it on to your hard drive ;)

Hi Fellow Daniweb IT members,
I am currently thinking to buy the Dell inspiron 546 MT with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 5200+ (2.7 GHz and 512Kx2 cache), and the 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium, 6144MB Ram, 640GB Hard drive and a 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card.
I mainly need will use it to make web graphics designs and videos for AS-level I.C.T and for homework for my school work.
Can you tell me if this Motherboard is fast/slow or non-responsive etc.
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply but would you have to re-write the operating system from the BIOS? I mean, How will I access it?
Hi Fellow Daniweb Members,
It may sound abit insane, but is it possible to upgrade a Playstation 2 graphics card to maybe a 512MB Nvedia 9800 GTX HD?
But even if you can, how can you disable the integrated graphics card? does the playstation have a BIOS like computers? and does the graphics need power supplied to it?
It would be grateful if you could tell me if this is possible?
Regards,
~ShahBoii
Hi there lemonade,
It is your hard drive. You got to remove your hard drive and place it as a secondary drive and the second computer will fix all the errors onboard the faulty hard drive then place it in the original computer. worked for me. By the way if it was the PSU the computer would not boot up at all.

Hi there sparkster,
I have suffered the same problem with my dell dimension 5000 with a petium 4 processer, 2GB ram and 160GB hard drive. The way I solved this problem was do remove the hard drive and place it in another computer as the secondary drive. Was this will do is that when the second computer boots up it will check the disks and the error in your faulty hard drive will be dectected and repaired.
NOTE: Back-up all your data on the second computer. (all the data from the faulty drive can be accessed from the second computer)
Hope that helps,
Regards

Thanks for that. I did try it last time but it seemed to muck many things up. Do I have to reinstall updates and service packs after the repair?
Well if you have your Driver CD then everything should be fine!
I'm really hoping for a solution before I kick this machine out the window
This is a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop, BIOS v.A06 (yea I see there's an update available but it's been fine till today), 512mb ram, 20gb HD, Win XP Home SP2 (with all updates).
I started the machine this morning just fine. Installed AIM Triton. System was incredibly slow so took a look at Task Mgr and see system is pegged out at 100% CPU. Not too unusual a site at this time of day as Windows Defender is kicking in and sucking up resources. Aim install finishes and I close browser windows that it had opened to see that Windows Defender has stopped with an error stating it was "unable to update, check Windows Update". So I go to run Windows Update thru IE (Firefox is my default browser) WU begins scan but I notice the little box to the right saying that my 'Automatic Updates' is 'off'. This is VERY unusual as I make it a point to turn that on and leave it on ALWAYS. But I click the little button to turn it on and set a time to check for updates. WU is still scanning. Finally WU comes back and asks to run the Genuine Windows Verification tool, again this is odd as I've run the Verification previously, but I say ok and it begins to check. It comes back to tell me that it doesn't think my installation is valid …
