Hello all, I am a new to this world of IT and working on my BA in Computer Science (six classes to go); this is a second career for me (I am now 48 and a disabled Veteran of the USMC) so I am seeking out every tool that I can find to improve my knowledge.

As I understand it, there were problems on Sunday (Feb 24) which caused problems logging in. Daniweb would not accept my password (or so it said). Normally when I go to login I get presented with the login page with my userID (reverend Jim) and password already filled in. Now I was getting the login page with my email address instead of my userID. Manually entering my userID and password resulted in an indication that my password was incorrect. I clicked on the "Reset Password" which is supposed to send a reset email to a given address (which I entered). …

This coming Sunday marks the one year anniversary of the Cambridge Analytica scandal story breaking and engulfing Facebook. Does *anyone* think Facebook, and in particular Zuckerberg himself, have learned *anything* other than they are both apparently immune from whatever smelly stuff hits the fan?

It is with deep regret that I inform everyone that it just very recently came to my attention that the DaniWeb database was breached in December 2015. Over a million user profiles, including email addresses and IP addresses, were stolen. Logins and passwords were protected through an additional security layer and were **NOT** able to be stolen. While encrypted versions of passwords were stolen, without access to the old version of DaniWeb's code base, there is no way for a hacker to figure out the very unique encryption method, which included multiple unique salts, which we used.
