Hey guys I decided a while back that I wanted to get into coding. I started a few days ago with sever tutorials ranginf from how the internet works to codeacademy which starts me straight off coding simple Python. This seems all well and good but the problem I have is that there is just so much free content knocking about I dont actually know what would be the best logical place to start. I think the general consensus from what I can work out is to start with javascript but im open to listen to any advice people have. …

I think we can all agree (this will likely provoke disagreement) that a voting machine that records a vote electronically without a way to do a manual verification is a bad idea. How then should a proper voting machine work. My suggestion is to have a touch screen on which the voter makes his/her selections (invalid selections would not be allowed). The voter would 1. Make selections on screen 1. Print ballot 1. Compare ballot to screen Once the voter receives the printout he/she would then compare the printed ballot with the selections made on screen. At that point the …

My geo-location was being displayed as Cambridge (I returned from there on Monday) so I told daniweb to update, which it did, except it now reported me as `Winnipeg, Manitoba - 3,897 miles away`. What am I 3,897 miles away from? Then, when I click on `Member Connect` it says (for example) that I am 46 miles away from aravindc (London, England) so I'm assuming that even though I did the update, part of daniweb still thinks I am in jolly old.

I'm at https://www.daniweb.com/articles/latest/unanswered and when I mouse over the poster's gravatar or icon, all pop up with "First Post by" and the menber name. OK, that's all well and good but then I was curious to see all the posts were "First Post by". Even one by me! This is a truly minor bug but may as well log it.

I'm trying to save DaniWeb. :) What are the biggest pain points you have with DaniWeb? If you don't visit DaniWeb as much as you used to, what changed? Where do you go now instead of DaniWeb? What makes other resources better?

I looked all over and can't seem to find where to endorse any longer. I see others have on the front page but it's eluding me.

Here's what I see. (image attached, where are inline images?) It seems odd to me to see 3 dated items there. All are same discussion and it's also strange that Dani's endorsement stays no matter what I do. I like you but this is odd to see behavior wise. Maybe you're still tweaking?

As title suggest, full screen edit happened in one of my replies. Could not exit with escape. Had to abandon the reply. Trying to replicate now.

OK, so I'm gereatric and have fading eyesight, but light typeface in light grey on white? Serioudsly: constructive requests vfor the topics summary page: 1. Show the name of the OP 2. Bring back the click to go straight to the laest post in a topic 3. Use sensible colours for type thatyou want people to read. ... and just for balance... the create new topic interaction is a VAST improvement - especially showng the Rules up front.

First of all, I would like to say that the interface is nice, amazing, and user friendly!! Thanks Dani and those who work hard on this !!! But one thing I would like to comment is about the **vote and comment**. It seems like only users with high reputation allow to use this feature because I get this message when I click the vote up button > Oops! > You do not have the permissions required to access this page. > Would you like to go back? Since this feature is not available to all users, why not just make …

If you visit the Member Search page, the hamburger navigation menu top left is missing. You have to go back to the home page instead. Is this intentional?

Huge congrats Dani, the new DaniWeb is not only looking slick and on-trend but actually *feeling* so much better to use, more powerful and more professional. I'm loving it so far! A BIG thank you from me for all the hard work you've put into this.

The title of the new employee training module alone was a sign that times have changed. This topic never came up in all my years at any job. Here's the boil down of the course. > If there is an active shooter in the area, we suggest you first run (away), hide and if forced fight I shared this with a friend in HR in Canada and they were mildly shocked. This wasn't my training session but my son at his new job.

I've recently become addicted to the Walking Dead. I was sick in bed Two weeks ago and needed something on Netflix I could binge watch. Now, as we speak, I'm posting here on DaniWeb, trying to come up with some creative stuff to write about, while I watch and try to fall asleep. My reason for starting this thread is because, back in the day, DaniWeb's community grew out of all of the random stuff people posted. The kinda off topic stuff that got us to form a community and really get to know each other. I really think we …

I've been following this whole 'Bloody Dazah' debate for a while, and have largely resisted from commenting as I was struggling to have anything positive to say. However, having now had a long chat with Dani about Dazah and DaniWeb I have to admit that I've changed my mind with regards to negative thoughts about Dazah and the way DaniWeb integrates with it. Indeed, I'd go so far as to say that I think Dazah will be the saviour of DaniWeb and we should support Dani in her efforts to ensure both have a future. Dani could easily have just …

I pulled up Opera and it had its VPN enabled. On the sites I clicked on Daniweb but was logged out so no biggy, log in. Then I went to Dazah.com and the matches felt off. Someone was zero miles away so I googled that company and it wasn't in the state. Hmm, more poking around and Dazah had me somewhere in Germany. Nope that's not right. Aha, I had the VPN enabled. No biggy, just turn that off and close the browser, open it back up and check Dazah again. Still in Germany. Fix: Logout and log back in …

Since am member of this forum am asking my self one question, why am not informed on time when someone reply to my question? For me the biggest engagement is something which is "LIVE" and i think for all of us is. I think this should be considered as "No. 1 to do list" for this forum. **EDIT:** What am saying is, emails are good to inform you when you are off your PC or off site, but live notifications on the website it self are priceless. - Thank you and bye

So almost everyone who's been here for quite some time will relate to this nostalgic feeling like this once was an active populated city and now it's nearly a ghost town, it's somehow depressing for me to see old ruins and abandoned places and things, not sure about you. Anyway, enough drama, so I wanted to give in some suggestions to bring more traffic here and increase our reach, I'm not expert in SEO and stuff so I'll leave that to its people. 1. We can organize a coding contest and market it here and there. Probably writing some good …

I take security and privacy issues seriously, but sometimes I despair when news stories such as that regarding Samsung TVs eavesdropping on private conversation explode across the media as happened last week. The reason for my despondency has less to do with the data privacy debate and more to do with the human stupidity one. That said, let's get the technical bit out of the way first. The privacy scare story kicked off after someone, eventually, noticed that privacy policy relating to Samsung smart TVs included the line: "Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other …

These are things I'd like to see available now that should be possible given current technology as opposed to pie-in-the sky things like "I really want a teleporter". For example, I am getting very tired of watching TV shows where the (supposedly) background music is so loud that I can barely make out the dialog. In some cases the BG music is not even music; it is just a loud whining cacophany. The music/whining starts out quiet but gets louder and louder to build dramatic tension. This, I can only presume, is due to either the writers 1. are so …

A recent study done by a think tank hired by Canadian airline companies has come to the conclusion that if the airlines charged less money then people would buy more tickets. I don't want to know how much money and time it took to come to that brilliant conclusion. What disappoints me is that this was reported on today's news with absolutely no comment by the newscaster.
