How does a network of c**p such as http://www.crazynews.net/ have all the sites getting such high page rank?
I assume it paid to get listed in the Yahoo Directory (), but that alone wouldn't do it?

Quick summary: PageRank started as a link-weighting idea, but modern Google combines many signals. A group of related sites can look like it "has high PageRank" because they exchange link equity, attract a lot of incoming links, or benefit from sitewide/footer links and syndicated content. As guessed, directory-style listings can help, but they are rarely the whole story; as and note, user interest and backlink counts do matter — however quality, diversity of referring domains, anchor-text mix, and link velocity matter far more than raw numbers.
How to evaluate a network quickly: compare total backlinks to unique referring domains; check for identical or thin content across domains; look for identical footer/sitewide links or aggressive exact-match anchors; examine sudden link spikes and clusters of links from the same IP ranges or C-class blocks. Use Search Console for your property and a commercial backlink crawler for cross-site analysis. If links look bought or manufactured, Google treats that as a link-scheme risk and may devalue or penalize involved sites — see Google’s guidance on link schemes and the disavow procedure (, ).
Practical takeaway: do not try to replicate low-quality networks at scale. If the aim is sustainable ranking, invest in unique content, editorial outreach, and diverse, natural links. If a detected network is harming a site, document the evidence and consider removal requests first; use disavow only as a last resort.
