The times of generating profits via blogs are probably limited. I remember even a few years ago when many bloggers touted making beyond 6 figure just by blogging. What do you think?

Echoing 's skepticism and 's usefulness-of-blogs point: profitable blogging is still possible, but the old "six-figure from ads alone" story is an exception, not the rule. Modern profitable blogs act as a distribution and trust layer for a real offer—product, service, course, or high-value affiliate—rather than depending solely on CPMs. Niche focus, audience ownership (email), and a clear monetization path are the core requirements.

A short, practical validation workflow:

  1. Pick a narrow niche with clear commercial intent and list three buyer questions people ask about it.
  2. Publish 8–12 pillar pages that answer those buyer/decision queries (comparison, review, how-to + product tie-in).
  3. Offer a simple lead magnet and a short email sequence to measure intent and willingness to pay.
  4. Run one monetization test (affiliate review, low-price digital product, or 1:1 service offer) and measure conversion and revenue-per-visitor.

Monetization notes and troubleshooting:

  • Match revenue type to intent: ads for high-volume informational topics; affiliates and reviews for purchase-intent content; products/services for problems with a clear solution.
  • If traffic grows but revenue lags, check offer fit, CTA clarity, pricing, and email nurture. A/B test one variable at a time.
  • Diversify: rely on at least two income streams and one owned channel (email) to reduce platform and algorithm risk.

Cautions and realistic timeline:

  • Certain niches (gambling, regulated finance, health) carry legal, ad-network, and affiliate constraints—sports betting may be lucrative but has regulatory and platform risks.
  • Expect a build phase: consistent revenue typically requires focused effort over months, not weeks.

Bottom line: profitable blogs still exist, but they’re built like businesses—niche clarity, an offer people will pay for, and disciplined testing.

With the preponderance of blogs by regular folks, I would agree with your assessment. I think blogs can be used to enhance profits of another business by talking about a specific topic and providing links to sites that market and sell related products (the essence of SMM). But even there the profits are limited. The only industry that I can see making a profit using blogs would be sports betting. There are many phone numbers you can call to get betting advice and expert picks and I think doing the same with a blog and tying it to an online betting service (or even a telephone betting service) could drive some serious profits.
