What is Google Tag manager and its benefits?

Google tag manager is a google interface that allows you to add tags or different tracking code without editing the website pages. You just need to install the google tag manager to your website and you can add/remove or update different tags or tracking code from its interface.

Suppose if you want to integrate google analytic. You need to login in GTM and need to create tag. There you will define on which pages and how you want to fire the tag and its all done.

It is a hassel free method to add more tags without editing the website. Hope it will help you to understand GTM.
