Hello.. I really didn't know where to post this, so i figured this would be as good a spot as any.. Well, I come to you guys needing help.. I am pretty much computer illiterate.. So i will ask you guys to give me a step by step analysis on how to fix this problem.. Almost as if you are talking to a 4 year old.. I would really appreciate it.. I have recently run into the infamous blue on my desktop that says that I need to invest in some type of spyware removal.. Well, fact of the matter is, I really need this to go away.. So, i thank you in advance for your help..

Brief expert note: the full-screen "buy spyware removal" message reads like rogue scareware rather than a normal Windows stop error. The HijackThis output attached to the first post shows many unexpected startup and browser-helper entries; as suggested, that kind of log is best handled in the Viruses & Spyware forum. Because indicated limited technical experience, the following is written as safe-first, plain-language guidance.

Immediate, safe-first actions (do not follow payment prompts):

  1. Isolate the PC from the Internet — unplug Ethernet or turn off Wi‑Fi.

  2. If the desktop is frozen, force a shutdown. Try to boot into Safe Mode (press F8 at startup). If the “blue” is only in the browser, use Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) or Alt+F4 to close the browser.

  3. From Safe Mode, copy important personal files (Documents, Pictures, email archives) to an external drive before cleaning.

  4. Run reputable on-demand scanners while in Safe Mode: start with a general antimalware scanner, then an adware/toolbar remover, and an anti-rootkit if prompted. Quarantine any detections and reboot.

  5. Use msconfig or Autoruns to disable clearly unknown startup items (do not delete files without confirmation).

  6. If Safe Mode is unavailable or the machine stays unstable, consider System Restore to a clean point or a Windows Repair/repair install.

If removal tools find items, quarantine and reboot, then rerun scans. When a fresh HijackThis (or equivalent) log is needed for deeper help, follow ’s suggestion and post it in the Viruses & Spyware forum — note whether Safe Mode was used and whether the browser homepage/search changed. Do not post personal files or passwords. After cleanup, update Windows and security software, reset browsers and toolbars, change critical passwords while offline, and maintain regular backups; if instability continues, a clean Windows reinstall is often the most reliable final fix.
