Are you good at mysteries? How about a double mystery!
I am stuck , snookered, stymied and whatever other synonyms
your thesaurus can supply.
## I have XP SP2 ( 32 bit )

## Day 1: in the big brother house :
#1) XP > connect to web > insert CD ( shop-bought so CDA or WAV )
> yahoo musicjuke box > output to HD folder MP3 at 160 kbps
# very normal HD holds a folder of music files
#2) XP > windows explorer ( details screen ) shows columns
of information for each track
file name , Size, Type=MP3, Bit Rate=160kbps
>rc on a track> go2 summary & u see tags info
# very normal all trks have columns properly populated.
#3) XP>windows explorer >RC FOLDER shows
correct file count , same as numer of tracks

## Day 2: in the big brother house : ( actually a bit later the same day )
#4) XP > windows explorer ( details screen ) shows columns
of information for each track
file name , Size, Type=MP3, Bit Rate=160kbps
BUT some tracks do not now show Bit Rate as 160 kbps
>rc on "suspect" track> and the drop down
does not allow rename/copy etc
> try to play a suspect track and nothing happens
# very AB-normal some trks have columns properly populated,
some do not
#5) XP>windows explorer >RC FOLDER shows
a file count of ONLY the trks that
have not lost their details.
#6) XP> copy "suspect" folder to another part of the HD
and it is NORMAL ie all track details correct,
and folder properties normal.
##
## So summarising :
# Mystery Number 1 :
Some of the tracks do not all keep their correct details
, and they cannot play or be copied or renamed and their
properties drop-down has the wrong menu!
#
# Mystery Number 2 :
If I copy the "rogue" folder to somewhere else on my HD
the original properties and details re-appear.

# I have had full clean scans ftrom AVG8 ( and Avast : today )
I have had clean reports from SPYbot and Ad-Aware.
# I have done chkdsk on the drive ( twice ) and it shows zero bad sectors.
# I have only recently noticed this problem, but I'm sure I would have noticed it before
if I had had it.

# Any suggestions ? Take a hammer to the Beast or Take a "chill pill".
Or take some deft actions suggest by "My Learned friends".
