first I want to say I really like this place, I found it through a web search !

#1 it seems a lot of times the taskbar & desktop freezes up, you will be able to access programs running by alt + tab,but that is it,I have tried looking into why this could be, but came up with nothing,I do not really run games on here, only once in a while, this is mainly just a on-line computer,so I don't think that could be the reason

#2 I can't put my computer on stand by/hibernate,when you try,the screen flicks & stays on, but you shut it down, restart it, then it will go on stand by/hibernate (on restart),then shut down

you need to stop a few programs from running at startup .check the startup folder in start/programs .

We all know about the legendary stability of ME
Yeah do what cape cod said. You have to conserve your resources first

Also you can download msconfig for win2000 and ME here ,put it in your C:\windows \system folder, and type MSCONFIG in START /RUN
