Hi,
Ive just installed xp on to my other pc which was running W98,
When i connect through dial up to go online the modem says no dial tone ive checked this out and the lines ok, but when i pick the phone up the line is engaged or no dial tone then switch the pc completely off and the line works ok.whats up with it
please help before I teach this old piece of crap how to fly !!

my modem is internal I havn,t touch the modem, any other ideas?

Yes unplug your modem and place it another slot ... you should open your computer casing for unplugging the modem.
