Internet Explorer 6.0, SP1. Windows 2000 Pro

Missing "advanced" tab in tools - options

Did a rollback and then re-upgraded to 6.0 from Microsoft site. Still not resolved.

Any ideas? Virus?

Any solutions?

Thank you

This is a restriction key in the registry

Do this and I'll show you how to fix it easily

Please Download hijackthis from

http://tomcoyote.org/hjt

Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

After the scan has finished the "scan" button will turn into a "save log" button

save the log file and paste it here

Do not delete anything yet, as most things hijackthis finds are harmless and needed.

I followed your advise and ran the hijackthis program. On this computer, I had a bad hijacking case. I did a bunch of ad-aware and spybot cleanup's. I installed the Google pop-up blocker and it all worked for a while, but now I am getting tons of pop-up's. Also, the Advanced tab is missing from the IE settings. Here is the hijackthis log file. Please advise what I should do.

HI

Fix this and it will solve your advanced tab problem

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

However you have a lot bigger problems than this

The biggest being the Peper trojan.....shown by this :-

C:\WINNT\system32\Qyu1D4.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\Wjwh.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [36F4SAZ3QJAFKE] C:\WINNT\system32\HnvnCv.exe

Neither spybot nor adaware remove this successfully yet....this is the only guaranteed way...

Run this uninstaller:

http://home01.wxs.nl/~kleyn080/uninst.exe

When done, use the following tool to delete the files themselves:

http://www.mjc1.com/files/mo/drpeper.html

Download Drpepertobackup.exe, save to disk, and doubleclick the file; it will self extract to c:\.
Find the "C:\drpeper\Find backup and Delete Peper files.vbs" file and double click it.

On the first prompt, copy and paste: HnvnCv.exe and hit ok.

On the second, paste: Wjwh.exe and hit ok again.

It will find all the files, delete them and will make backups in the same folder.
It'll open a text file (Peper.txt) with the list of all files deleted.

When done, restart your computer, and post the contents of that Peper.txt file here, along with a fresh hijackthis log.

Thank you! I followed your advice. The only problem I had was that the unistal.exe did not seem to run through the whole process. The progress bar got only to the middle and then the uninstal.exe shut down. I did the same from DOS and while booted in Safe Mode - same result. Is this normal?

Should I remove the extra buttons from IE?
Thank you very much once again,
Koval

Yes you can if you want to.....Your log shows you got rid of the peper trojan ok.

Just to finish up, you can (and should) delete the entire C:\drpeper folder . You will not need the backups, as you nailed all the correct files.

You also have a CWS hijacker.....so now run this program :-

http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip

Then post a new log and we'll clean up what's left manualy

Thank you very much for your help! I will do it and post the log here again.

HI

Nothing in your log

All I can suggest is a good clean-up, temporary internet files etc,

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

This could be the result of malware or if you have made the restrictions yourself, either with spybot or editing the registry.

Thanks,
Koval
