reported sudden loss of access to Hotmail/MSN webmail and Messenger while other sites (Yahoo, etc.) still worked. asked for errors and suggested either a temporary service outage or an ISP-level block. Both are possible; the checklist below helps isolate the cause (local PC, DNS/hosts, router/ISP, or account/server-side) and gives concrete steps to try.

Run these from a Command Prompt (administrator) to clear local caches and collect basic diagnostics:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset
nslookup www.hotmail.com
tracert www.hotmail.com
notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

What to watch for: nslookup should return an IP for the hotmail/msn hostname; a failure points to DNS or ISP filtering. Open the hosts file (shown above) and look for any lines that map hotmail/msn domains to 127.0.0.1 or another IP — remove those lines after saving a backup copy. netsh winsock reset requires a reboot to complete.

Other quick checks: try a different browser or an incognito/private window, clear browser cache, disable any proxy in Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings, and temporarily set DNS to a public server (e.g., 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1) on the network adapter to rule out ISP DNS filtering. Test from a second device on the same LAN and from the same PC using a different network (phone data tether) — if all devices on the LAN fail, contact the ISP; if only the PC fails, focus on local software (antivirus, firewall, spyware) or corrupted network stack.

If web access works from other networks but the account still won’t login, the problem may be account-level (temporary lock or authentication issue) — use the provider’s account recovery tools rather than posting credentials. Avoid posting sensitive info on the forum.

What errors do you get when you're connecting...

it shows no error. it just say that it is currently unable to login me in the meanwhile. ask me to try later. but i try a couples of days already but still the same.

Sounds like it was down.

Or Hotmail has blocked your ISP because spoof/spam was phaked as coming from your ISP. They are notorious for doing that.
