I need some ideas. It's a 1.7 GHz processor, 256 megs of RAM. The MB is ASUS and the machine is running XP Home edition.

It goes through the BIOS screen comes to a screen that should allow you to run safe-mode, etc. (but it won't allow you do do anything..locked up), then it goes through the pre-cursor (black screen) for Windows. At that point it shuts down and repeats the above. It will do that all day if unattended.

Some input is needed, and will be appreciated.

Thanks, BuddyB

Hi there,

I had the same thing a few weeks ago when trying to get my computer to stop locking up!

I ended up taking out all the pci cards and messing around with the BIOS.

It stopped looping when I set the Power Management setting in BIOS back to APM/ACPI.

It's a long shot, but it got my PC booting properly again.

I haven't found out yet what is making it lock up though. Seems to happen when the drives are being accessed and at purley random times!
