noted the Store later worked. For future reference, Windows 8 Store freezes like that are usually transient but have a handful of repeatable fixes and checks that save time.
Quick checklist to try next time: verify system date/time and region are correct; reset the Store cache by running WSReset.exe from Run; run an elevated Command Prompt and try sfc /scannow and, if needed, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth; use the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter (Control Panel > Troubleshooting > View all); temporarily disable third-party antivirus/firewall or any proxy to rule out interference; update Lenovo display/touch drivers from vendor support; test from a wired network or another user account to see if it is profile- or network-related. If the problem persists, re-register or repair the Store app with PowerShell or consider a system refresh, but back up data first.
A last note: collect Event Viewer errors under Application when it happens — error codes there make targeted fixes easier. These steps cover the most common, non-destructive remedies and will help isolate whether a restart/update was the one-off fix or if deeper action is needed.
I got it to work!
My computer had to restart and update itself if anyone was wondering...
