When I try to open excell or word file through a shortcut on my desktop,
I have a +/- 15 seconds delay before the file actually opens.
If I open excel previously and open a file it does so immediately
I would appreciate help on this matter.
I have a very fast computer and 1Giga RAM

Delete both shortcuts.
Right-click-drag the icons from the start menu, and select create shortcut here.
rename to taste
If that doesn't work, repair the installation from the office disks.
