Hi,

I have read all the related topics and have tried downloading CC cleaner and have bought Registery Toolkit and still have problems getting through on sites. I get as far as the home page and when asked for my log in details I get the page cannot be displayed. This is driving me mad I can't get to my Ebay Account and have missed out on auctions. Can anyone help me please.

A compact troubleshooting checklist that targets the most common causes when public pages load but secure (login) pages fail. Given has already tried basic fixes and suggested trying another browser, focus on TLS/SSL trust, local network settings, and security software interception.

Start with quick checks (these fix most problems)

  • Confirm Windows date and time are correct. SSL certificates are rejected if the clock is wrong.
  • Click the padlock on the secure page and view the certificate: check issuer, expiry, and whether the browser reports a chain/authority error.
  • Test the same site from another device or via a phone using mobile data. If that works, the problem is local to the PC or router.

Safe, effective fixes to try next

  • Clear Windows SSL state (Internet Options -> Content -> Clear SSL state).
  • Temporarily disable HTTPS/SSL scanning in any antivirus/internet-security suite; some products intercept SSL and break logins.
  • Check for a proxy or forced LAN setting (Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings) and reset WinHTTP proxy if needed.
  • Inspect the hosts file at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts for unexpected entries.
  • Flush DNS and reset network stacks with these commands in an elevated command prompt:
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
netsh winhttp reset proxy

If problems persist

  • Ensure modern TLS versions (TLS 1.2/1.3) are enabled on the system/browser; older systems may need updates.
  • Run Windows Update to refresh root CA certificates.
  • Capture the exact browser error message or certificate error code; that detail points directly to the fault.

Cautions: make a System Restore point before major changes and only disable security software briefly for testing.
