Let's say Explorer has become corrupted. Is the best way for re-installing the client doing a limited install from the CD, then go to MS and do the upgrade to the latest version (after deleting from Add/Remove Programs)? Or should the Add/Remove Programs be attacked first deleting IE, then going to MS and downloading latest version? Appreciate some input here.

dont even bother reinstalling IE ...I had numerous problems with it crashing on me and then decided to install Firefox instead to browse the web....best thing I have ever done !! much quicker than IE, more user friendly and quicker in downloading pages....try it and you wont be sorry !
