I have a question and I hope any experienced and knowledgable IT professional answers my question and removes my confusion.

For example if I have a DNS Server in my local network and my network is on a domain environment and my local network is accessing internet via a broad band connection provided by ISP Service.

The DNS Server in our local network also acts as a DHCP Server and dynamically provides IP address to the computers in the local network.

Now my question is that when we check connectivity with any website eg. yahoo, google or hotmail by pinging the domain name of these websites in the command prompt. We get a reply from its Public IP address but I wanted to confirm that does this ping request resolves the domain name into IP address by first checking the DNS Server in our local network or in the ISP's DNS Server or the ping request has nothing to do with resolving the domain name into IP address?

I hope my question is clear.
